Relationships[edit]

Relationships and fancruft[edit]

The entire 'Relationships' section seems to fit the definition of Fancruft to me; indeed, the entire article seems more about the cult fan movement behind the game rather than the game itself. Wouldn't this article be better off with a plot summary than this relationship drivel? Suggest removal of the section. --209.122.74.2 19:28, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. - :Tzepish 00:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And apparently Sparky fails at reading comprehention. See my little comment on the bottom of the page about this. --Sparky Lurkdragon 06:13, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"A great deal of Galcian and Ramirez's dialogue indicates the possibility of a relationship between them, with Galcian as the seme and Ramirez as the uke."

Is this serious? I'm only on disc 2 but haven't seen anything of this sort. Of course, now that I've seen this, I'll be much on the lookout for it. -- Ethan Glasser-Camp

It's serious; just that most of the dialog comes out towards the end. I don't have any of it handy, and probably almost all of it is spoily, but I'll assure you, it's there. Then again, you may well have finished the game by now :) Andrew Rodland 05:32, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I changed the title of the villains section to...uh, villains. The old title of "Villains (We're calling some of these people villains for lack of a better term. Belleza and Gregorio end up sacrificing themselves to defend Vyse)" was accurate, sure, but it was really wordy, and put a major spoiler right in the table of contents, above the page's main spoiler warning. I agree that this article could use a plot synopsis in place of the fancruft that seems to make up the relationships section. Adol Christin 03:01, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Relationship"?[edit]

"Some dialogue in the middle part of the game hints rather obliquely at the possibility of a short relationship between Aika and Fina."

I've played the entire game several times and I never noticed anything like this. I mean, other than them being friends (and roommates for a while). Of course, it's not like I was looking, but I think you'd have to be looking pretty hard to find anything between these two. I mean, you could just as well say there was something between Belleza and Vyse (there's not).

Me too. I've only played through it once, though, but I still couldn't find anything.

The Vyse/Fina and Vyse/Aika parts are quite accurate, however.

-- I agree about the lesbian relationship, it should be removed since there's not much to back it.

It's no less valid an interpretation than any of the others, which are all subtle at best and nonexistant at "worst". There is no less (some would say more) evidence for Aika/Fina than Vyse/anybody. He's too wrapped up in exploring the world and making his mark in it to have any apparant notice for girls. He could be gay himself for all we know.

P dont call him gay hes badass
So's Neil Patrick Harris. Not sure what gay has to do with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.55.232.38 (talk) 07:40, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

imo there is evedince of vyse/aika or vyse/fina (not more than what you see happen but feelings are obviously there) and im sure that any guy no matter how busy he is exploring, killin. leading, planing, or otherwise, will not take time out for girls. THAT is a fact 72.208.177.101 23:07, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship section necissary?[edit]

Is the relationships section really even necissary at all? I mean, I acknowledge that 'shipping is pretty important in romantic fanfic, but... well, put bluntly, this section reads like nothing but fan speculation, and this is an article about the actual game, which, as the section header admits, doesn't even particularly focus on romance.

Fanfic and speculation is a blast, but I wouldn't write about theories on the Black Moon a friend of mine came up with in the Wikipedia, and nor do I think a Wikipedia article should speculate on which character is with who. --Sparky Lurkdragon 06:12, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No one's responded in a week, so... *snip* --Sparky Lurkdragon 23:13, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lewis- Just a breif note, SKIES OF ARCADIA is the single best RPG I have ever had the privellage to play. Its awe inspiringly amazing. I think Vyse and Akia/Fina is certianly some sort of love flickers but they never conclude it which makes it so tempting ot suggest. Doubt them being lesbian/ gay, seems a bit extreme. Intresting lesbian idea tho.......'Oh Fina I've dropped my bath robes!'

'Thats ok Aika, so have I!' LMAO :D

Really this needs more infomation and pictures on the gigas and the ships, and what about the discoveries? oh and the places like the silverite space tempal and the pyrmids, the 'lost city' of Rixis. And what about the Loopers, u can't leave them out. Theirs barley nay mention of Yufamoto and the blue giga. I havn't got the time or the recources to fill this all in, but I would appreciate anyon who could. Lewis *finally staying on topic*

"Magic" section[edit]

I do not think that the detailed list of each spell should be included in the "Magic" section of this article. Wikipedia is not a strategy guide. Does anyone disagree? - Kalarchis 07:56, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article is actually in terrible condition. The characters section is way too large, those magic tables shouldn't be there, there's some stuff in list form that needs to be converted to prose, etc. I'm going to go ahead and get rid of the magic section, and if anyone is up to it, we can get started on improving the article. -- Steel 11:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, this article looks alright to me. The opening could use a major rework, but besides that it's not too bad. The "Characters" article, on the other hand, needs a weed-whacker taken too it. I'll see what I can do with it. - Kalarchis 19:28, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Compare this with something like Shadow of the Colossus or Final Fantasy X and you'll see how not alright it is. -- Steel 20:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What I meant (and should have said) was, it's certainly not ideal, but it's not atrocious either. Looking at the FFX article, I think we could apply that article setup to this article with a high rate of success. That is: proper introduction, gameplay section, plot and setting section, reception section, and versions section. If that sounds good to you, I can start work on it. - Kalarchis 00:00, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm quite keen on improving this article, Skies is one of my favourite games. At the moment, though, we're about to start pushing SotC to FA status, which is likely to take a lot of effort, so my efforts here will be somewhat limited until that's done. -- Steel 11:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I've started writing the improved version of the article. I don't know how long it'll take, and it's not going to be very beefy (I am an exclusionist). - Kalarchis 16:39, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, are we in agreement that the world in the game is called "Arcadia"? I'm on the "Plot and Setting" section and want to make sure. I don't ever remember the game saying what the world was called, but I think the title implies that the game takes place in the skies of the world of Arcadia. However, I don't want to use original research. Thoughts? - Kalarchis 21:51, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Either avoid giving a name to the game world, or find a preview/review which says "The game takes place in a world called Arcadia" or something. -- Steel 21:58, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is taking me forever, but I've been kind of busy. Anyway, for the "Story" section, should I include a full story summary as the FFX article does, or just a synoposis? It seems to me that detailing the entire story, start to finish, would be a bit much, and is unecessary. - Kalarchis 20:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a brief synopsis wouldn't be particularly helpful to the reader, but likewise you don't want to give a step by step account of every single thing that happens in the game (I realise that isn't a very helpful answer). My suggestion would be to do things as close to FFX as you can, since that's a pretty good article.
I'm planning on beefing out that reviews section at some point, just so you know. -- Steel 20:25, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

80th best game ever on EGM's list[edit]

Here [1] That was published on EGM v15/1 #150 (1/2002). Will someone add that to the "reviews" section? I tried, but messed up the page so bad, I had to revert it! - Stormwatch 04:45, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fina image[edit]

Why is it unlike the other images? Perhaps the uploader of the image can change it?

Paul Haymon 06:04, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Antagonists[edit]

Backup of the antagonists section incase anyone wants to use it to build on what is there:

Antagonists[edit]

The general villains of the piece are the Valuan Empire, however the main characters are specifically opposed by the six (later seven) Admirals of the Imperial Armada:

  • Galcian, Lord Admiral of the Valuan Armada: Galcian is a dark, cold and calculating man. He is strongly connected to the mysterious Ramirez. His flagship is the Serpent, although in the later part of Disc 2, his flagship becomes the floating battlestation, the Hydra. Galcian is an incredibly powerful fighter, and wields a gigantic sword (possibly a wide-bladed zweihander) as a weapon.
  • Alfonso, First Admiral of the Valuan Armada: Alfonso is a foppish noble with very little courage. He is closely related to Empress Teodora, which goes a long way to explan his high ranking despite his incompetence. The player never fights Alfonso, only his mechanical bull Antonio, although he is seen using a rapier. His flagship is the Cygnus.
  • Gregorio, Second Admiral of the Valuan Armada: Gregorio is the oldest of the admirals, and a long time friend of Teodora's late husband. Gregorio serves as a father figure of sorts for Prince Enrique (who calls him "Uncle Gregorio") and obviously cares deeply for him, even though they are not related. He is known as 'Ironwall' for his impenetrable defenses, and fights with a shield and spear. His flagship is the Auriga. He fights Galcian in order to allow the party to escape from Dangral Island, sacrificing himself.
  • Vigoro, Third Admiral of the Valuan Armada: Headstrong and aggressive, Vigoro is a lecher of the first rank. Vigoro has a very large ego, thinking himself impossible for women to resist. He develops a "romantic" interest (i.e. infatuated) in Aika when she is in the Valuan prison. His flagship is the Draco, whose biggest feature is the massive cannon on its front. Vigoro also uses a scaled-down cannon for close quarters.
  • Belleza, Fourth Admiral of the Valuan Armada: Sultry and dangerous, Belleza, an expert in espionage, is the head of Imperial intelligence. She addresses Vyse as 'handsome' since they meet in Maramba, where she disguised herself as a travelling dancer. Her flagship is the cruiser Lynx. Late in the game, she sacrifices herself to prevent Galcian from escaping the damaged Hydra. Her name means "beauty" in Spanish.
  • De Loco, Fifth Admiral of the Valuan Armada: A deformed, insane little man. De Loco, nicknamed bubble head by Vyse due to his distinctive glass helmet, is the head of the Armada's research and development programs. He cares more for his machines than the lives of his crew, and will go to great lengths to punish anyone who damages any of his inventions. His flagship is the Chameleon, which serves as a test bed for his numerous prototype weapons. He developed the powerful "Moon Stone Cannon" which serves as the Delphinus's most powerful weapon later in the game. The player faces De Loco three times in airship battles; in each encounter, he is armed with a different "super cannon." 'Loco' is Spanish for 'crazy', reflecting his manic behaviour.
  • Ramirez, introduced as Galcian's Vice-Captain, later becoming the sixth admiral in the Valuan Armada. The youngest admiral by far at the age of 24. Ramirez has a mysterious connection to Fina. He is a deadly swordsman, and a brilliant tactician. However, he does not scruple to shed blood. (quite the contrary: Soldier:"We can take Nasrad without damaging it, sir." Ramirez: "Maybe, but I want it to burn to the ground.") His flagship is the Monoceros.
  • Piastol, A gothic-looking woman who hunts air pirates. Also known as "The Angel of Death". She is after Vyse because she mistakenly believes that he killed her father Admiral Mendoza of Valua 10 Years before the story began. One night, her father's ship the Aquila was on fire. Dyne's Blue Rogues saw the ship aflame and staged a rescue mission to find survivors. However, Piastol thought it was they who set the ship on fire and attacked the first person she saw, which was Aika. Aika came unarmed thinking it was a rescue mission, so Vyse defended her from Piastol's throwing knife and got a scar on his cheek which remains to this day. When Mendoza's corpse was found and examined, it turns out it was a sword wound that killed him instead of the fire. From then on Piastol planned to avenge her father's death by hunting down any and all air pirates. It is later revealed that Piastol is Maria's older sister, who was traumatized by the same incident and believed her sister to be dead. Piastol is armed with a scythe and Eterni spells, along with a Deathhound at her side. She has the Super Move Tempest Dance, which becomes longer and more deadly each time Vyse and company fight her. Piastol appears in Skies of Arcadia: Legends as part of a side quest, not in the Dreamcast version.

This part doesn't sound right[edit]

Lacking any highly rated single player RPG's, Skies of Arcadia filled a hole in the Dreamcast's lineup.

That is not correct, there was another one. Grandia II had very positive reviews, as you can see from its 88% ratio on Gamerankings. [2] - Stormwatch 02:38, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

True. The two games were released at about the same time though, so it's not entirely wrong to say that Skies of Arcadia was filling a hole when it did come out. SubSeven 09:01, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget Elemental Gimmick Gear. It came several months before either, and was highly rated. [3] It's not a pure RPG, though, it's more Zelda-like. - 200.19.188.1 12:03, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Final Fantasy[edit]

It was critically well received thanks to its stylish graphics and light-hearted setting, which contrasted with the then highly popular cyberpunk-influenced brand of dark fantasy that was popularized by such games as Final Fantasy VII.[citation needed] A similar motif was used by Final Fantasy IX, released around the same time for the Sony PlayStation.

An advance apology to all Final Fantasy fans out there, but I'm not sure the mentions of FFVII and FFIX are needed in the article. If you can make a case for keeping this section in the article, please do so here. Otherwise, I think it should be deleted (especially the mention of FFIX). NighTrekr 20:19, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Skies of Arcadia Legends[edit]

The section is worded somewhat confusing. It also makes it sound like the Gamecube had a rumble pack, which is not true. Also, mentioning that the developers 'took advantage of the Dreamcast hardware' by letting users know when a battle was coming by the spinning of the disc seems highly suspect. I would assume that's the dreamcast loading information off the disc. While it may alert you to when a battle is upcoming, I doubt it was done by the developers as a tool for players

Agreed ARC Gritt 02:35, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Have attempted to fix this section. Here is the block of text which I removed:

In the Dreamcast version, for example, when a battle is about to begin, the Dreamcast's GD-ROM drive will spin loudly just beforehand, allowing players to jump to the Status Screen to make any last minute adjustments a split second before the battle began. The Jump Pack would also rumble a split second before a battle began. Cheers. – ARC GrittTALK 19:02, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Enhanced Remake"?[edit]

This seems incorrect. Legends was not a remake, it was a port with a small amount of extra content. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.2.126.106 (talkcontribs)

Actually no, Skies of Arcadia had the full graphical update, looks better then its dreamcast counterpart, had some of the extra downloadable stuff the dreamcast had pre loaded onto the disk, bountys, loads of discoverys, Piastol(that chick), and one or two other things May not of had a huge amount of story added though, infact it had no real story added, i somewhat agree with you there, an enhanced port would be more likely, but i don't know how some people would define remake here, someone enlighten me —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.128.201.250 (talk) 22:37, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A remake would be more along the line of Metroid to Metroid: Zero Mission, or Resident Evil to Resident Evil GCN, where the graphics get a massive overhaul. The "graphical update" in SoAL was miniscule in comparison; in fact, I'd go so far as to just label it an expansion pack if not for the fact that it's not a downloadable addition. Then again, the EP article mentions that games of this nature can sort of be considered in that light. Arrowned (talk) 22:58, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sequel[edit]

I know rumours are not allowed on Wiki, that's fine, but where is the evidence of there being NO sequel. Someone removed the rumours and stated that's it's been announced as false but I haven't found anything from Sega saying they're not making a sequel. --Earisu |Talk 00:12, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The rumor of a sequel hasn't been proven false, just the second rumor that it would be announced at the Tokyo Game Show. The sequel rumor should still be there.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.175.136.127 (talk) 01:16, 14 October 2008

Pinta's Quest[edit]

There was no mention at all of Pinta's Quest in the article. I can only assume that no one who played the original Dreamcast game has been working actively on this article. I've added a very short section about Pinta's Quest with a reference to a good Gamefaqs article, but it would probably be a good idea to flesh it out a bit, and describe Pinta's Quest in a bit more detail, maybe in its own article. I may get some batteries for my VMUs and do the work myself but if anyone else wants to do it instead I'm only glad to avoid the work... Khim1 (talk) 18:28, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PAL Dreamcast Issue[edit]

It surprises me that there has been no mention of the fact that the PAL version on the Dreamcast was not 60Hz optimized; it didn't have such an option like most other games and after having imported the game from the U.S and later having played through the Gamecube version, the difference in the speed was very apparent. In simple terms the PAL version ran at approximately 15% slower than the NTSC versions which is something I remember, because it merely compounded the issue relating to the random encounters by increasing their overall length. Character info cutting[edit]

Starting a discussion since there seems to be a bit of back and forth on it. I personally think it should be somewhere in the middle. I think it should be trimmed back some, but the trim job was a bit heavy handed. We generally have a bit more character info than that if it's a game without a separate "list of characters" article.
