What does "Artist Leroy Neiman made one of his first arts thee: He pained Ali and Frazier as they fought" mean? Kingturtle 01:50 Apr 7, 2003 (UTC)

I don't know anything about the subject, but it probably means that the painter Leroy Neiman painted one of his first paintings there.

The sentence: "Ali had been stripped of his world Heavyweight title by boxing's governing bodies after expressing his views on the Vietnam war in 1967" is literally true but leaves the false impression that the various governing bodies took his title because of what he said.

As a review of the events in the Louisville Courrier-Journal ( http://www.courier-journal.com/ali/timeline/670428_refusedraft.html ) makes clear, Ali refused induction into the Army, then the U.S. Atty. anounced he would be prosecuted and then, "In New York, the State Athletic Commission announced Clay would be stripped of his title and an elimination tournament would be staged to pick a successor. The World Boxing Association and other controlling groups in the sport are expected to take similar action."

A small matter perhaps, but it took a lot more courage to openly refuse to be drafted than it did to merely express one's views on the Vietnam war. --Ralph

What, are you talking about. and since you didnt give the section a heading or title, i Had to rename it Crazy Talk, dont wanna be rude but That was 'Crazy Talk'. --Too Cool 14:03, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, why use the phrase "pro-war". No-one is pro-war. Using the phrase is pejorative, like saying he is the "pro-American" contender. Maybe say "they supported the democratically elected government". --Ian — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.244.20.2 (talk) 16:17, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No one is "pro-war" hunh ? Obviously you were not there. At least half if not more of the US was "pro-war" in 1970, and still are today. They just want the dead kids coming back in green garbage bags to belong to *other* people.203.160.86.28 (talk) 11:16, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Alifrazier 2.jpg[edit]

Image:Alifrazier 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

"crawl on my knees"[edit]

Does somebody who's a little more familiar with the subject want to include in the Pre-fight section Ali's boast that if he lost he'd crawl accross the ring on his knees and tell Joe he was the greatest? And that he failed to live up to his boast AND that his camp immediately disputed the "fairness" of the judging...KhProd1 (talk) 05:13, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

boxers in the audience[edit]

I think in the list of celebrities in the audience Gene Tunney should be mentioned given how important he is to boxing history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.104.147.198 (talk) 12:54, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tale of the Tape[edit]

Doesnt tale of the tape mean the fighter's stats like height, weight, reach, etc? ToT's in the Info Box but doesnt list these stats. 173.210.125.42 (talk) 14:06, 6 November 2011 (UTC) Correct: height, weight, reach, fist size. The article lacks too much crucial information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Missaeagle (talkcontribs) 21:53, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hype?[edit]

I don't understand this sentence: "Without either fighter representing the social divide in the country, neither their second or third fight lived up to the hype of the first." The third fight is considered one of the greatest fights of all time, so I don't see how it didn't "live up" to any measure of hype. Maybe the sentence is meaning to say that the actual hype for the 2nd and 3rd fights was not as intense as the hype for the first, as opposed to talking about the fights themselves living up to hype. If that's the case, it needs to be reworded.John ISEM (talk) 09:49, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Frazier-Ali result was not reversed by 15 vs. 12.[edit]

Clear error. Look at wikipedia's own https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight_of_the_Century#Scorecard

Frazier had 7 or more rounds on two of the three cards after 12 rounds. Both 12 rounds and 15 would give the same decision outcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.119.141.15 (talk) 06:44, 12 April 2016 (UTC) Please ignore my nonsense above. I placed this on the wrong talk page, so sorry.70.119.177.3 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 07:46, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"...Ali dominated the first three rounds..."[edit]

Huh ? The scorecard shows Frazier winning round 3 unanimously. Rcbutcher (talk) 05:10, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Italy[edit]

The fight was watched by 54 million Italians? 5.4 maybe, 54 million exceeds the Italian population in 1970 just 53 million — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:AA60:8E00:1DFF:A125:7C26:3AB (talk) 22:09, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
