Untitled[edit]

Rick Renzi was in business in the Washington DC metro area. He returned to Arizona (accused of being a carpetbagger) to run for the newly defined congressional district one. His family has remained on the east coast.

Edits by 143.231.249.141 and 207.200.116.134[edit]

I reverted the edits made to this article by the above users. The edits made by 143... completely remade the article, deleting much information and replacing it with content couched in fawning language. The edits made by 207... were minor, mainly replacing "majority" with "plurality" in reference to voter registration, when there is in fact a Democratic majority in that district. I reverted thinking I was logged in, that's why it has my IP adress instead of username. --JMurphy 23:26, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

current registration is 42.9% dem - not 50%... http://www.azsos.gov/election/voterreg/Active_Voter_Count.pdf

Harsh language there, dude. Anyway, sorry for the mistake, and thanks for pointing it out. Not to criticize, but you might want to consider getting yourself a username, since you're active enough to engage talk pages and such.--JMurphy 03:32, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

sorry for the harsh language... i deleted it as it was out of line... i was a little touchy to you reverting my legitimate edit, but i over reacted... you're right, about the screen name, i'll take care of that soon

Edit by 143.231.249.141 have been reverted again[edit]

I reverted the edits made by 143.231.249.141 made at 22:33, 5 December 2005, because the article was rewritten (not reverted) to look almost exactly the way that user left it about two weeks ago. A quick google search of a short phrase reveals that the user changed the article to look almost exactly like an official biography for Rep. Renzi, such as the one posted about him to the US House Intelligence Committee. The change deleted much relevant information, replacing it with an article of much lesser quality. A warning has been left on that user's talk page. --JMurphy 07:26, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Delay[edit]

None of the allegations against DeLay have been proven. Ronnie Earle, the Tom Delay prosecutor, has a history of indictments against Democrat and Republican political enemies that have failed (see Kay Bailey Hutchison) and it has been widely reported that Earle had to shop the charges to several grand juries because some refused to indict. [1] One of the charges filed by Earle was summarily dismissed by trial judge Pat Priest. Earle has partnered up with producers making a movie, called The Big Buy, about his pursuit of DeLay that has been filming since before DeLay was notified of the charges. [2] [3] [4]

This was added because the added statement about Tom Delay is an unproven allegation that is used to make the member of congress guilty by association. Especially when there is much evidence that Ronnie Earle's indictments are politically motivated. You cannot include one side of an unproven allegation and not include the other, to do so would be unfair and biased.

That's all well and good, but last time I checked this article was about Rick Renzi, not what you think about Tom Delay's ongoing investigation and prosecution. I'm sure the expert editors who are keeping a close eye on the Delay scandal could set you straight-- if you read the article and talk page for Tom Delay. Just don't try to insert your opinion into Wikipedia, especially in a place where it's not relevant. --JMurphy 16:14, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jmurphy - If there was anything in error over my edit please state what it was, instead of your carefully phrased ad-hominem. Also the purpose of your edit was to cause guilt by association in a most unfair manner. The paragrapgh is it will read after my edit will give both the democrat say facts and the republican's say facts. Since the DeLay bit is unproven allegations in the name of fairness both sides of the indictment controversy must be published.

However your views have been taken into considerationa nd the new paragrapgh reads as follows.

Renzi also received $30,000 in campaign contributions from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's ARMPAC. After DeLay was indicted in 2005, Democrats criticized Renzi for not returning the money or donating it to charity. [5]. Republicans say that the charges against DeLay are politically motivated because prosecutor Ronnie Earle has a history of unsuccessful indictments against political enemies of both parties such as Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), and because it has been widely reported that Earle had to shop the charges to multiple grand juries because one refused to indict. [6] [7]

None of the facts above are in dispute. Bachs 18:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1986 - 2000 period - request for info[edit]

In September 2004, at OurCongress.org, a variety of detailed comments about Renzi were posted [8] . A couple of items are, I think, potentially quite valuable for this article, but the source fails WP:RS, so I am not going to use it unless a valid source can be found. In particular, anyone's help on locating sources for the following (or any contradictory info, for that matter) would be appreciated:

  • Property records indicate that Renzi and his wife left Arizona in 1986, when they moved to Burke, Virginia. Based on statements made by Renzi, the [Department of Defense] program [which employed Renzi] ended in the late 1980s, at which point he obtained a Virginia insurance license and ran an insurance business in Burke.
  • According to documents filed with the insurance commissions of three states – including Arizona – Renzi was a legal resident of Virginia. Renzi was registered as an out-of-state insurance agent in Arizona, Connecticut and Florida. [what years?]

Related to this, any information about the physical location of Renzi and Company (or "Renzi & Co. Inc.", or a variation thereof, since renamed Patriot Insurance Agency Inc.), Renzi's insurance firm, from its founding in 1989 until 2000, would be appreciated. [Note: old versions of the renzi.com website are, unfortunately, inaccessible via archive.org - and of course that may not even be the domain the company used.] Similarly, info on Renzi Vino Inc. and Renzi Investments Inc. (now Fountain Realty Development Inc.) would be appreciated - when they were started, how much money was invested and in what, etc. John Broughton | Talk 23:15, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Renzi's were/are residents of Burke, Virginia. I happened to have gone to school with their children.

Unfolding scandal[edit]

In the Early Life section, I changed "Renzi's father is now" to was based on this line from this story "Renzi's father, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Eugene Carmen Renzi (retired), died on Feb. 9." Similar change made in "Father's company" section. Patrick Harrigan (talk) 17:19, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huffington Post sourced? WTF people?!?[edit]

The mention of the alleged fight with McCain gave the Huffington Post as a source. Sorry, but the HP is nothing more than a collection of blogs from Hollywood celebrities and other liberal elites.

Further to the point, the HP gives as its source an election-year attack book on a Presidential candidate written by a partisan nobody.

Even further to the point, the author of the book gives anonymous sources as his validation.

So you have it...third-generation hearsay is now a reliable source on Wikipedia. Give me a break! Ynot4tony (talk) 17:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is... then entry makes it clear that the source is the huffington post so anybody reading it should realize that.--Dr who1975 (talk) 17:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. According to Huffington Post... it is a liberal news website... not a blog, even if you or somebody reading the page disagrees... my previous comment still allows it to be used.--Dr who1975 (talk) 18:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of what they call themselves, Huffington Post is a collection of BLOGS. They feature OPINIONS, and are readily grouped BY AUTHOR.
Anyone with $25 can start up a domain and call it a news website...but that simply does not MAKE it a news website, nor does it come close to making it a reliable source.
Again, I ask, what is the standard here? Can I post MY OPINIONS on the website I recently purchased, then source them for my own politically motivated Wikipedia edits? C'mon, this is getting silly. Huffington Post is no more a reliable source than my blog on myspace.
Just re-consider: The source for this UNVERIFIED INCIDENT is...an OPINION WEBSITE...it's source is A BOOK YET TO BE PUBLISHED...the book's source is "ANONYMOUS SOURCES".Ynot4tony (talk) 18:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AnomieBot problem[edit]

I found dead links at Wayback citations and changed some. AnomieBot reversed a change, "rescuing" a dead link. I'm not sure if there's a way around this. Activist (talk) 05:28, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
