Is the Office Space reference necessary to this article? Blake — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.160.98.31 (talk) 19:01, 27 April 2006

What do you consider "necessary"? The office space is very significant in terms of land area, day-time population, and total property value as this is a mixed-use land development association. see https://lascolinas.org/history/. Who are the Carpenters?[edit]

How is Ben H. Carpenter connected to the John W. Carpenter whom the local freeway was named after? Ubermonkey 03:39, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • John W. Carpenter bought the original holding, a few hundred acres, in 1928.
  • Ben H. Carpenter, his son, continued developing and managing the property.

written like an advertisement[edit]

The article summary contains a criticism that the article "contains content that is written like an advertisement". I agree. The importance of the article is not in question but rather the style or lack of factual basis for comparative statements. There are adjectives like "affluent" and "upscale" that are not based on cited facts or verifiable sources. I am inclined to remove these adjectives until someone is willing to pull in published data on average resident income or average property value per square foot as compared to regional, national, or global averages. citations for verification[edit]

The summary contains a criticism that it needs additional citations for verification. I agree. Much of the information about Las Colinas I found in a quick online study was published by the governing corporate entity, The Las Colinas Association, which introduces a concern for bias or verifiability.

  • I believe the history of Las Colinas can be supported by local historical and genealogical societies, and journalism.
  • County and city sources may also be available. I have added citations for the governing body's articles of incorporation and other registrations with the State of Texas.
  • The Recent History section contains a hodge-podge of citations from news published by commercial property owners or tenants. The value of these is as questionable as including lists in an article that is not a "List of ..."article.

I am adding a list of potential sources:

  • book: Gary N. Bourland, "Las Colinas : the inside story of America's premier urban development", ISBN 0-9609350-3-7, available at the Irving Public Library
  • article: Lee Powell, Ranch to riches: A city's tale Las Colinas' growth marked by foresight, careful planning, available on web archive

Move proposed[edit]

I propose amending the article title to reflect standards and conventions for geographic locations as the article is seemingly out of sync with Wikipedia conventions and because the focus of the article is the geography and not the corporate governing entity. I am not sure yet what the official Wikipedia standard or guideline is. When reviewing and editing articles for other geographies I see conventions that connect them to the more familiar name of the larger region:

  • unincorporated communities: community name, state [Starfield, Missouri]
  • neighborhood developments: development name, city [Brookside, Kansas City]
  • township: township, county, state [Lafayette Township, Clinton County, Missouri]

Does anyone have insight or suggestion? Stephen Charles Thompson (talk) 17:20, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked the articles for Wikipedia:Article titles and Category:Wikipedia naming conventions proposals looking for guidance and found none. I am going to use the next two most recognizable geographic names for government: city, state. Stephen Charles Thompson (talk) 17:53, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate list location[edit]

The list of neighborhoods and the other developments subsection are not part of geography and climate and should be moved to their own section or a more compatible existing section. Staind fan1 (talk) 18:24, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
