Having grown up in NE Ohio, I have always seen this spelled as one word, Firelands, which is why I moved this here from "Fire Lands". older≠wiser 01:06, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC) Heh, OK, a little Googling shows that it is spelled both ways--a lot of the historical materials has it in two words, although many of the contemporary references use a single word. older≠wiser 02:06, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Vacationland

Just so there's no misunderstandings and that we're all clear, I have added five different references to the article to verify that since the early 1900s, the region has also become known as "Vacationland".

And not only that, I've also added the fact that the Miss Ohio pageant officially recognizes the region as "Vacationland", by having potential area qualifiers compete in the "Miss Vacationland" pageant. Jacquelyn Mayer showed that there's some significance to this title, as she used it to springboard onto becoming Miss Ohio, and then Miss America.

So I believe I've shown that there is both legitimacy and historical significance of the "Vacationland" name, thus any info and reference pertaining to it should be kept in the article. Vjmlhds (talk) 23:25, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

What you fail to see is that these "sources" do not verify your claim: that "Vacationland" is the modern day equivalent for "Firelands". The two terms apparently refer to the same general region, but in different time periods. Compare this situation to the articles for the Connecticut Western Reserve and Northeast Ohio; one is historical, the other modern, and while they apparently share much of the same geography, they clearly refer to different subjects. None of your sources say anything remotely close to "Vacationland was once known as the Firelands" or "Firelands, now known as Vacationland..."; until then, your claims are nothing but original research. Find a source which explicitly links the two terms, and then you may have a case. Levdr1lp / talk 19:18, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

I added a source from the Erie County Chamber of Commerce - where they refer to the area as both "The Firelands" and "Vacationland". Vjmlhds (talk) 20:44, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

The Chamber of Commerce source states that Sandusky is known as "Vacationland of the Midwest"; it does *not* connect "Vacationland" & "Firelands". This isn't even WP:OR -- it's plain wrong (as a source for your claim). Levdr1lp / talk 21:08, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately Vjmlhds is overlooking the fact that the LAKE ERIE ISLANDS, which are an INTEGRAL PART of "VACATIONLAND"; those islands were not ever included within the "FIRE LANDS". UNCLE! I'm tapping out. I came into this with honorable intentions, I go through a lot of trouble trying to dig up good sources, I do everything by the book and in good faith, and it all goes right down the commode. And to make it EVEN BETTER, a sock puppet comes in with the sole purpose of making a pest out of himself on this article, and succeeded to the point of getting himself indefinitely blocked. You wanted me to find a source that connected the dots, well after a long exhaustive search, I found one (the Lake Erie land survey) No WP:OR (there never was to start with...any claims of it were at best sketchy), and WP:V is MORE than satisfied. Vjmlhds (talk) 13:43, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

While this source does at least mention both topics, it does not seem to be a real connection, just a mention that one of the towns in the region prides itself as being the center of Lake Erie's vacationland without any further information on what that might mean or consist of.--Yaksar (let's chat) 06:05, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

I could also prove without a doubt that the garment district is part of what was once Colonial New York, but obviously that would be silly. Unless we have a source clearly saying something along the lines of "The are once known as the Firelands is now known as Vacationland]], sources saying "a city that is in this historic region considers itself to be a part of a modern day different region" is not particularly helpful.--Yaksar (let's chat) 06:15, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
