Blu-Ray release[edit]

I believe the above person is suggesting that this be incorporated into the article; there's no mention of the Blu-Ray release at all, and it seems pertinent. At the very least, there's no reason to delete a suggestion from a talk page. HoCkEy PUCK (talk) 18:54, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The link is legit, and says that two blue-ray sets were released - the first, episodes 1-46 and various extras on March 27, 2009 for ￥78,000 without tax, and the second, episodes 47-70 on June 26, 2009, for ￥47,000 without tax. It's sold on Amazon (box 1) box 2. Some people have blogged about it in English as well. Anyway, not sure where to add it to the article, otherwise I would. Incorrect Citation?[edit]

Toonami[edit]

Added this page to the Toonami category. I had done this previously but it was removed due to the source of it having been on toonami not being cited. Ideas[edit]

  • Consider expanding in the lead "The manga was originally serialized in Nakayoshi from the May 1996 to June 2000 issues". Something like "The manga was originally serialized monthly in Nakayoshi from the May 1996 until the June 2000 issue" would clear up any assumption of how regularly and how many times it appeared in Nakayoshi.
  • "Critics praised the manga for its creativity and has been described as a quintessential shōjo manga". Change it to make sense. "Critics praised the manga for its creativity and described it as a quintessential shōjo manga" is how I would interpret it.
  • Consider rewording "Heavily edited and dubbed, the series was renamed Cardcaptors and aired 39 episodes..." It might read better if the order was changed "Heavily edited and dubbed into 39 episodes, the series was renamed Cardcaptors and aired..."
  • "so fans could think "I want to be like her." Unless this is a quote from Nakayoshi, it would be better to use formal language. Something like "so that fans could relate to her" may be more appropriate. There is an overuse of informal prose as opposed to encyclopedic prose, for example, "going so far as to try to".

The "I want to be like her" was a direct quote, worded by Nanase Ohkawa, but I can see it would probably be better to paraphrase it, and probably other quotes used. My apologies for the delay, Cirt abandoned about 10 articles at GAN and I managed to get through all of them now. Anyway, I read through the article and didn't find any issues keeping it from GA status. If you want things to fix outside of GA, I found a couple. There are a few names and like linked multiple times in the article; they only need to be linked the first time. Also, there's a couple places where you use 5-6 refs. If there's a way to shrink that in those cases then that may be helpful.

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that List of Cardcaptor Sakura video games be merged into Cardcaptor Sakura. I think that the content in the video-game article can easily be incorporated in the main article, and the main article is of a reasonable size in which the merging will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. Furthermore, the video game article is quite short, and unlikely to grow larger barring a revival or sequel by Clamp. --User:WoodElf 05:01, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have mixed feelings about this. The reason I created the article was so I could split off most of the video game info from this article, and put it in a standard format. But I can see how it could be merged back into this article, especially because the mention of the video games is fairly short. Tomoyo's ('Madison's') lesbian crush on Sakura[edit]

In the original Japanese version of Cardcaptor, Tomoyo, her best friend, has very, very, obvious feelings for Sakura, which (as usual) were completely removed from the dubbed version. For example, in their first proper scene together in episode one, Tomoyo is quite plainly smitten with her and talks about how 'sweet' and 'cute' she is from almost the very moment she is introduced. Indeed, their first proper conversation starts off with Tomoyo openly telling Sakura that she likes her; "You were so cute back there, Sakura-chan" and it is quite plain what she means from the body-language. Tomoyo goes on to tell her that she wishes she could have "recorded that moment (of cuteness)" on tape or camera. Sakura then explains (via internal monologue) that Tomo likes videoing and taking pictures - particularly of Sakura. Sakura says that Tomo could easily find something more interesting to photograph than her - to which Tomo dreamily answers that there is "isn't anything more interesting, or cuter, than you, Sakura!", while looking off into the distance and clutching her hands to her face.

All of which was (crudely) cut out in the dub, including Tomo's infatuated body language - and Sakura's awkward embarrassment at being the object of another girl's affection, in favour of Tomo announcing how she is going to "Make a documentary on the life of a fourth grade girl". Shortening the plot[edit]

I think we can make the plot even shorter somehow but the only way i can think of is if we also adding a character section to shorten some of the introduction such as Syaoran Li seems a bit difficult to manage without removing it almost entirely. I do believe we shorten this upto at least 3-2 paragraphs. What do you think? The last two paragraphs are rather messy.Lucia Black (talk) 04:47, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Per the prior result at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Clow Cards, an article on the clow cards does not deserve a separate article as they are not notable in their own right outside of the series itself; they are merely as aspect of the series' plot, and articles should not only revolve around plot-related elements or be a hotbed for trivia. Besides, the episode summaries do a good job of explaining what cards were in what episodes without having a separate, redundant list with the same information.--十八 10:41, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About the title of the new manga[edit]

The title of the new manga is not officially translated in english, but in the article appears as "Clear Card Arc". The Japanese title in romanji is "Kādokyaputā Sakura Kuria Kado-hen" (in kanji: カ ー ド キ ャ プ タ ー さ く ら ク リ ア カ ー ド 編). So the literal translation of the title is "Clear Card Edition" (in "Clear Card-hen", 編 is the kanji for "Edition"). I corrected the title in this way, but also decided to open this topic to discuss future discrepancies on this. JBOOK17 (talk) 12:19, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The kanji "編", while literally translating to "edition", "editing" or to "put something in order", when used as a subtitle to any manga is supposed to represent a "story arc", a "part" or "volume" of a book, therefore I argue that the correct translation would be "Clear Card Arc", or any other term that represents a story saga. I'll give two examples, "InuYasha: Kanketsu Hen", which was translated as "InuYasha: The Final Act": https://myanimelist.net/anime/6811/InuYasha__Kanketsu-hen; and "Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Majū Hen", which was translated as "Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Wraith Arc": https://myanimelist.net/manga/90309/Mahou_Shoujo_Madoka%E2%98%85Magica__Majuu-hen. Confused with review from Robert Nguyen[edit]

"atypical shōjo" manga, which puts an "emphasis on the emotions of the character." → Is this really what Robert Nguyen wanted to say about CCS or it just hist typo in ANN? Because I think a typical shōjo is about emotions of the character, isn't it? Why him said it "atypical" (same untypical if I am not wrong)? --minhhuy (talk) 17:32, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The synopsis of the manga is confused with the anime[edit]

"Ten-year-old Sakura Kinomoto accidentally releases..." In the manga, the book is empty besides one card when she finds it; she is not to blame for scattering the cards.

"Sakura is suddenly unable to use the Clow Cards and transforms her wand..." In the manga, the wand transforms during Yue's test. Mizuki's moon bell combines with the wand to give it the new form.

"Eriol tells Sakura that he aided her in converting the cards so they would not lose their magic powers." In the manga there was no serious risk of the cards losing their magic. That may have been mentioned, I don't remember, but there were so few cards and the manga naturally was fast-paced so this was not an active conflict like in the anime. Eriol's motivation in the manga is testing and wanting to pass the torch to Sakura, who is the daughter of Clow's other reincarnation.

"Two years later, Syaoran moves back to Tomoeda permanently." It's one year later; we see their fourth grade and fifth grade years, then there is a time skip to the beginning of the first year of middle school (7th grade).
