Note the contradiction: He lived in Vancouver from 1905 to 1909, but was rescued on Bondi Beach in 1907. Did they go back and forth across the Pacific, or is there a problem here? 220.253.57.84 01:40, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The following website [http://www.sx44.com/papers/SX44%20-%20Papers%20-%2044%20Year%20History%20-%20Part%201.htm ]has documents claiming to cover the early years of a Masonic lodge in Vancouver. Various Kingsford-Smiths (father and sons - presumably father and elder brothers of our man) appear up to Dec 1908, when it is noted that they then returned to Australia. This seems far too prosaic to be spurious. The National Museuem of Australia , which is apparently prepared to vouch for the near-death experience on Bondi Beach, says it happened when CKS was visiting Sydney. This would be entirely consistent with the family returning in 1909. What evidence is there for return to Oz in 1907 ? Rjccumbria (talk) 19:33, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Discovery" of aircraft[edit]

I dont believe these stories should be included in the main article on the basis that they are not much more than speculation. There is no conclusive evidence apart from the film-makers word for it. Thoughts?. YMAYpilot (talk) 01:27, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ken Richards as Kingsford Smith's observer ?[edit]

"During the First World War, Ken Richards had been the observer in Kingsford Smith's plane in France". Kingsford Smith flew single seater SPADS in France. ?? Rcbutcher (talk) 12:23, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I found this which talks more about the relationship between the two men, which also mentions being the observer in France but gives no more detail. Curiously I find a 1950s newspaper article that tells this story about the flight in Cowra having happened back in 1922, yet there is no newspaper story from 1922 (or thereabouts) about this incident. It's also completely missing information on certain aspects of CKS's life, for example his family, the Coffee Royal scandal, and Australian National Airways. Circumnavigation[edit]

The List of circumnavigations page states that "Between 1928 and 1930 Charles Kingsford Smith made a series of flights completing the first circumnavigation by monoplane and first "true" circumnavigation (crossing equator) by air", but this page doesn’t mention any such thing. It does say that his plane, Southern Cross, after crossing the Atlantic, "continued on to Oakland, California, completing a circumnavigation of the world, begun in 1928"; but also that CKS flew it across the Atlantic from the Netherlands: while the Southern Cross page says that it crashed in 1929 in Australia, and was sold there in 1935.
So, which is it? Did CKS complete an aerial circumnavigation between 1928 and 1930? Did he and Southern Cross fly from Australia to Europe sometime around 1929? Or is the entry on the list page just someone’s assumption: Does anybody know for sure? Moonraker12 (talk) 17:25, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
