Clear Channel censorship[edit]

What is this Clear Channel banned list we hear about in this article, and why is it relevant to the concert? Isomorphic 07:05, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Clear Channel Communications has an explanation of the banned song list which they created subsequent to the 9/11 attacks. --Bluejay Young 02:50, 22 Apr 2004 (UTC)
According to the discussion at Talk:List of songs deemed inappropriate after Sept. 11 by Clear Channel the songs weren't banned, but discouraged. DJ's still played many of them without penalty. Perhaps the wording should be changed here. -R. fiend 16:35, 22 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Since we DON'T live in the Max Headroom world...[edit]

As I originally encountered it, the article said that the concert was arranged "after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon by the four major United States television networks". This implies that the networks planned and executed the attack. Instead I've moved that reference to after "organized", making clear (I hope) that the concert was a product of American TV rather than the attacks being so.

Phone operator problem[edit]

It was reported that people would call in to donate money, and ask to talk to one of the many celebrity "phone operators" being shown in the special. For example, Jack Nicholson was shown apparently taking phone calls and donations, among other celebrities. When told they couldn't, they hung up. The day after the telethon it was mentioned on the Howard Stern Show. Why isn't this mentioned in the article? If there's no good argument why it shouldn't be added, I'm coming back in a few weeks to add it. (Actually re-add it..I seem to recall seeing it mentioned in the article but it magically disappeared. Pffft.. ) --24.21.148.212 (talk) 21:39, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The recent Haiti telethon learned from this mistake -- many celebrities shown answering phones actually were indeed answering phones. --98.232.178.38 (talk) 22:08, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So why isn't it mentioned in the article??? --98.232.236.134 (talk) 23:52, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reception/Ratings[edit]
