Untitled[edit]

Is that just my font or is something really weird about that Urdu...? I'm pretty sure not all of my urdu script looks like that. (presuming it is using a different font from Arabic script...) gren 07:33, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nast'alīq would require unicode glyphs similar to the way Chinese is encoded. Hopefully one day this will happen, but for now naskh has to suffice. On a different note, is there a Pakistani out there that can take and upload a picture of this mosque? It is so unique and a Pakistani icon as well, would really add to the page. Faisal not as large as some may think[edit]

I believe Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (Mosque of Prophet Mohammad) in Medina, Saudi Arabia, to be the largest mosque in the world. So Faisal Mosque in Islamabad does not hold the title of being the largest under no circumstances. I don't think King Faisal would go build the largest mosque in Pakistan and not in his own kingdom (Saudi Arabia).--Khan1982 00:17, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Faisal Mosque is the 4th largest. It used to be the largest mosque from 1986 till 1993. Faisal Mosque was the initiative of the Government of Pakistan and King Faisal agreed to finance it only. So the size of the mosque was not King Faisal's decision. And, in fact, when it was completed it was biggest mosque in the world until 1993 when the Hassan II Mosque was completed in Casablanca. Later, the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque became bigger during the 1990s under the King Fahd expansion programem. Poloplayers (talk) 08:19, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the text related to the burial place and the contents of General Muhammad Zial-ul-Haq's grave as the discussion is irrelvent to the article. That needs to be discussed in the article about General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. It is a general understanding that both the Haramaeen-e-Sharifeen (the Holy Kaa'ba and The Masid al-Nabawi) are not to be considered in the list of the largest mosque as they would always stand above all the other mosques of the world. The Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina are both mosques in every sense of the word and, therefore, have to be included in the ranking as mosques. It is situated at the end of Faisal Avenue, not Shahrah-e-Islamabad as incorrectly stated. Shahrah-e-Islamabad ends at Zero Point from where Faisal Avenue begins. Poloplayers (talk) 08:18, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Capacity: 300,000[edit]

The article text says that it has "a capacity of 300,000 worshippers", but the infobox (which is the only bit that is referenced) states "Capacity: 24,000 (porticoes), 40,000 (courtyard)". Where does the 300,000 come from? -M.Nelson (talk) 00:01, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox needs to be updated. Faisal Mosque can accomodate 100,000 worshippers in its main prayer hall, porticoes and courtyard (combined) and it can accomodate another 200,000 worshippers in its grounds (which are part of the mosque complex). Hence, the 300,000 capacity. This capacity was proven during General Zia's funeral in 1988. Poloplayers (talk) 08:23, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The area must be more than 5.000 square meters, given the numbers for worshippers and the photo, it does not add up, have added a need reference on it, remove when checked. Ulflarsen (talk) 10:07, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
