Is there a reason these are capitalized? Shammack 18:41 Apr 17, 2003 (UTC)

Species are capitalised "Carrion Crow" or "Crow" for short. Groups of birds, "the crows", the "woodpeckers" are not. Scientific names are capitalised except at species level, eg Corvus corone. See any bird (or mammal) field guide or similar.
Otherwise there is the possibility of confusion between say "The Nuthatches" all Sitta sitta, or "the nuthatches" 20 odd species of Sittidae. jimfbleak 18:47 Apr 17, 2003 (UTC)

confusion with the rook?[edit]

'There is frequent confusion between the carrion crow and the rook, another black corvid found within its range' this is nonsense a crow looks nothing like a rook, there is no more confusion than that between a pigeon and an eagle, on the other hand its more likely to be confused with a raven. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C4:7891:E900:35E8:5FE3:440C:DF2C (talk) 21:39, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree the average person in the UK would not confuse the two of them 2A00:23C7:5AD0:8F01:3543:F44C:A25B:A0CD (talk) 10:21, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The grey-black Crow ?[edit]

Isn't the grey-black crow the same species as this ? In Scandinavian litterature this bird is often described as having a West-East colour boundry. West of a line that begins in Jutland peninsula in the north stright dowmn to the Alpes, these crows are black, and east of the boundry they are grey-black. I've red somewhere, that along the boundry, black coloured and black-grey coloured crow breed. The offspring gets eighter black or black-grey, if I'm correct. 83.249.164.158 (talk) 09:16, 9 October 2013 (UTC) Sorry - Talk above is written by Boeing720 (talk) 09:17, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

There seem to have been some recent editing problems regarding attempts to insert or modify photos. Unfortunately, I am rubbish at photos but, in an effort to help out a bit, I have restored one messed-up one (Southend), which now seems OK, and removed one (Culverly Green crow) which I just can't find or relink or whatever. The editor trying to insert it may want another try, or may want to ask here for help: confirming the desired filename might be a good start. Best wishes to all, DBaK (talk) 14:11, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gregariousness[edit]

'The rook is generally gregarious and the crow largely solitary' ... 'Due to their gregarious lifestyle and defensive abilities, carrion crows have few natural predators.'

Which is it? 87.126.21.225 (talk) 13:32, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
