Erros in the first table[edit]

There is a ton of errors in the first table. Where do you find Kozani 71000 Veroia 60000+ etc? Those are wrong

Untitled[edit]

I think we shouldn't add to this list, greek villages like Ouranoupolis or neighbourhoods of cities like Petralona. If someone wants to list these he can make a different list in a different page.

We shouldn't delete other's contributions that aren't wrong without a notice of the reason. Sofos 20 Jan 2004

Before we start listing cities, we should define what a city is. Is there a defenition in greek census data for what constitutes a "city"? Aggelophoros 03:47, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)

This is properly not a list of cities, but municipalities. It can hardly be argued that Ilion or Peristeri are cities. They are part of the metropolitan complex of Athens. Furthermore, they do belong to the prefecture of Athens. I dont particularly object to listing them here, as a metropolitan municipality of Athens has not been created, but it woul be useful to indicate their de facto status as parts of Athens. (or, in other cases, Salonika) Druworos 17:45, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone has already italicized them, and I added ¹ or ² to indicate Athens or Thessaloniki, respectively.
Although, to be honest, I, too, would prefer it if metropolitan complexes, rather than municipalities, were listed wrt large cities. :That way we would have a true list of cities all over Greece, rather than a catalogue of Athens and Thessaloniki suburbs, which the entry reads like currently.

Someone who's got the city data please correct the population entries. Those who made Athens a sum of 15 or more "CITIES" either have never been to Greece or don't have a clue. I don't think disrupting the entire table is the solution. I think what you mean is a list of agglomerations by population, that could be useful in addition to this list IMO. Markussep Talk 13:27, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please place accurate figures[edit]

So I just went over the census document(http://www.statistics.gr/portal/page/portal/ESYE/BUCKET/General/A1602_SAM01_DT_DC_00_2011_02_F_EN.pdf), which is referenced for the CDP table and most of the figures on this article for 2011 are incorrect! I will try correct the figures as many as possible, but can other users also make sure that the right numbers are being copied from the Hellenic census to the table on this article. For example Thessaloniki on the census document is 325,182 but on the table here it's 315,196! (were is this number from??) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.161.9.94 (talk) 09:29, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changes about the template[edit]

The template "biggest greek cities" needs to be edited.

These are the populations of the municipalities (Καλλικρατικούς δήμους), not the list of the biggest greek cities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.242.97.135 (talk) 22:22, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sitia is not listed, but has more than 10,000 inhabitants. Is this an inadvertent omission or is there some inclusion criterion? --JorisvS (talk) 10:37, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bad template[edit]

This template tries to do everything by template rather than by designed tables. I've seen the technique before. It doesn't work out. The intent is to offer a fixed design untouchable by ordinary users. That isn't consistent with WP's practice of letting the users do the design with simple tools offered by WP. In this template we have to have two column. One two-column line is too wide for the page. You end up losing the pictures. It would help to increase the space between lines, but you can't do that. Moreover, there is no space between columns. In the discussion above I see nothing but complaints. We don't want it the way it is, but you can't change it. I would say, let us abandon the template for this article. A table would then seem warranted, but the second table covers all the same material. Why have two tables? I say, junk the templated table. If they want to know what the x largest cities are they can count down x rows in the second table. Moreover, the second one is sortable. Now, the pictures. The second table is too wide for pictures. So we see this unicolumnar array of nice pictures arrayed in a not-so-nice design. I think the creator of that column was protesting the template. The template is beyond hope, out, out with it. We can do better with simple tables. The pictures must go in a gallery. I see we have ingenious table notes for the sortable table. Very good. Let's put it at the bottom and call it "Table notes," and call the gallery "Gallery." I was tempted to try and help on this one but I can't get past the template. Let someone else mess with it. Timeless skin and this page[edit]

On a normal 16:9 monitor, this page is broken when using the timeless skin. A small note to fix MoonlightVector 12:27, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Subjects overlap, full list and partial list could just be given in one place. Otherwise these at least need better linking an explanation of differences. Reywas92Talk 04:46, 15 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These two things are not equivalent. Whilst a large city may take up the whole of a municipality in the greater Athens or Thessaloniki areas, in most of Greece, municipalities include one or more cities or towns and a surrounding rural periphery. Cities are essentially communities or census designated places, and only have advisory councils, their role is purely advisory to the municipal-level government. Municipalities are headed by a council and mayor with responsibilities. This is covered on the article Municipalities_and_communities_of_Greece 16:21, 15 December 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.241.49.84 (talk)

Oppose. Overlap but not the same thing - that should be obvious from the list of cities and towns where some places are in bold (i.e. municipalities) and some are not (only census designated places). -- P 1 9 9   01:45, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Closing, given the consensus not to merge. Klbrain (talk) 12:31, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

City pictures[edit]

Hey, there's a lot of city pictures to the right and a lot of empty space to the left. I have to scroll through these to get to the list. Is there anyway someone can put them on the list, or maybe should we add them to their own section at the bottom, or maybe we could delete them entirely? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wacape (talkcontribs) 04:11, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
