In 1906 it became the first country in Europe to give women the vote. Women have previous held senior posts including defence minister, national bank governor, speaker of parliament.

The new parliament has 75 female members - 37.5% of the total.

First female PM under a female president[edit]

Reason for dismissal[edit]

This article completely ignores the circumstances of her removal as PM, and it really should mention this in order to provide full details of her biography. Can someone please add a section about why she was forced to resign? --Mezaco (talk) 00:16, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One user deleted the entire section on the scandal that led to her quick resignation. I restored it but I think more needs to be done to make sure the content itself is accurate. However completely deleting this section made the subject's tenure as one of the shortest in Finland's history practically incoherent. Ofrc3 (talk) 05:45, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
