Budrys and his sons[edit]

The (English language) article states that he lives with his four sons. I assume the sons are adults, because Budrys is 75 years old. Does anyone know if this is actually true? Mr Frosty 23:24, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Listed short stories[edit]

Rogue Moon[edit]

Rogue Moon is highlighted as a novella, and its reprint in the SFWA anthology is cited, yet the novella is not the novel. As Damon Knight wrote of Rogue Moon, the novella is to the novel as the veal cutlet is to the calf. Also, the novella was not up for a Hugo, the novel was. Lithuanian-born?[edit]

Might I point out that Budrys wasn't born in Lithuania? Perhaps "Lithuanian-American" would be more accurate, or for pedants, "East Prussian-born Lithuanian-American". Mangoe (talk) 17:41, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lokyz is actually factually correct. During the Nazi Occupation of The Netherlands, Prince Magriet was born in Canada but the Maternity Ward was declared Non-Territorial and since the Dutch derived citizenship from their parents (Jus sanguinus), when Princess Magriet came sliding out, she got spanked on the bottom a Dutch Citizen! True story. Read about it here:Princess Margriet of the Netherlands. Now, I am not sure about Lithuania's rules at that time because Lithuania pre-USSR may have had different rules than they do now. However, when I knew AJ, he explained to me that he was born a Lithuanian due to his parentage so it is either due to Citizenship by Blood or the fact that Embassies are considered the territorty of their Government. I realize all of his conversations with me are considered OR unless I publish my memoirs of him. Even so, ither way it worked out, by Jus Sanguinus or Jus soli (birth by soil) AJ is was a Lithuanian-American during his life by mere fact of having been born to Lithuanian parents outside the USA.LiPollis (talk) 06:09, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scien.[edit]

Apparently there was quite a lot of connection between Budrys and the Hurch of Cientology. Should this be mentioned in the article in some way? DS (talk) 22:35, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

His work was only with the Clarion author workshops. He was not in any way a scientologist nor connected with the church. In fact, when Clarion was proposed to him he insisted that there be no connection and would not otherwise accept the position. The Clarion Workshops are in no way connected to the Church of Scientology. The Writers of The Future Contest, for which Budrys was the managing editor for many years, were created by L. Ron Hubbard and continued after his passing as part of his will, to encourage beginning writers (and now illustrators.) I won a prize in this contest in 1994 and met Budrys at the subsequent workshop and awards ceremony. At no time was Scientology mentioned or pushed upon any of the prizewinners, (there were 24 of us, 12 writers and 12 illustrators).Fishmeal22 (talk) 20:05, 13 June 2019 (UTC) --Fishmeal22 (talk) 20:05, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
