Er... there's only one bridge that has tolls... most bridges in the country do not have tolls. Semantics... Also, the "electronic toll highways" are not highways, they're roads that used to be toll-free (called SCUT accordingly) but are now paid. They don't have the typical toll booth etc, just overhead readers. A pain for foreigners.

Telepass[edit]

I can't understand why this article says that Via Verde is the first automated toll system in a country. What about Italian Telepass, which was introduced in 1989, 6 years before Via Verde?--Gspinoza (talk) 14:43, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Norway has been the world's pioneer in the widespread implementation of this technology. ETC was first introduced in Bergen, in 1986, operating together with traditional tollbooths. In 1991, Trondheim introduced the world's first use of completely unaided full-speed electronic tolling. Norway now has 25 toll roads operating with electronic fee collection (EFC), as the Norwegian technology is called (see AutoPASS). Portugal only had a few highways in 1995 and all of them belong to the Brisa company, so that's why it was "single and universal", but they didn't invent anything!
