First message[edit]

This is mainly a copy of http://www.paris.org/Musees/Invalides/, I think it has to be removed for copyright violation. -- JeLuF 02:58 Jul 21, 2002 (PDT)

This is no longer true, needless to say. Wetman 07:43, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Architecture[edit]

section has a big gap.....need reorganization from one with skills to do so. Randalllin 23:21, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Domes[edit]

Not all domes are imitations of St Peter's. Mansart's dome is a hemispherical cap that stops the upward movement. St Peter's is an egg-shaped dome with bold ribs that rises to its lantern. Wetman 07:43, 11 Jul 2004 (UTC) Comparison will show that the right hand image is less clear and informative than the earlier version, which I've restored to the article page. --Wetman 04:45, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I completely disagree with you that the image you replaced it with is more clear and informative. It is much lower resolution and has a big lens flare in the middle of the frame. I've reverted it back again. Please be more specific about your issues with the image if you'd like to discuss it fchickenurther on the talk page. Renault tank[edit]

When I visited Paris as a boy (early 1980s) there was a WW1 Renault tank at les Invalides. Is it still there? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 171.192.0.10 (talkcontribs) 10:49, 27 February 2007

Yes, it was just mentioned in another Talk page. But there are many weapons on display, and we discuss the article here. Should more of the weapon displays be mentioned? -- SEWilco (talk) 18:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. The Musée de l'Armée is also in this complex, and many weapons might be part of its displays. -- SEWilco (talk) 18:56, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current Residents[edit]

When I was in Paris in Sept of 2008, I remember reading something that said that said there were 12-14 veterans from WWII that continued to reside here. Can anyone confirm or deny this with certainty? I have been unable to find an online source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.165.132.252 (talk) 17:12, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The list of people interred in the vaults includes "Nigel Uno Roman King of Babaganesh". Nigel Uno is the name of a cartoon character from the TV show "Kids Next Door", and Babaganesh is a dish made with eggplant. I suppose it is possible that the cartoon character was named for a historical figure, who ruled a kingdom named Babaganesh, who gave its name to a food, so I'm not going to edit it out. Somebody with more chops in the European and Roman history may want to look into this. Just sayin'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.199.189.6 (talk) 14:12, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dome architecture and lantern pictures[edit]

I've been lucky enough to visit the dome and lantern (which are deemed dangerous and not available to the public), and uploaded pictures detailing the architecture of the triple-dome structure, the wooden frame and carpentry, the lantern, the cityscape and other things.

The gallery is available on wikimedia commons. Maybe some of these could be included either in the article itself or some other architectural/historical topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.6.47.122 (talk) 23:25, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Hôtel des Invalides, North View, Paris 7e 140402 1.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on September 29, 2016. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2016-09-29. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 00:17, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Les Invalides
Les Invalides is a complex of buildings in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, France, containing museums and monuments relating to the military history of France, as well as a hospital and a retirement home for war veterans. The buildings house the Musée de l'Armée, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, and the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine. It is also home to the Dôme des Invalides, a large church where some of France's war heroes, including Napoleon Bonaparte, are buried.Photograph: DXR

Influence of design[edit]

I have removed a section listing structures whose designs are claimed to be influence by that of Les Invalides. No claim was cited, and the section has been tagged for likely original research for two years. Kablammo (talk) 16:52, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
