HOCNA[edit]

The Holy Orthodox Church of North America (HOCNA) was left out. (Metropolitan Ephraim, Boston, MA)

Assyrian Orthodox[edit]

I added the "unreferenced" tag because it is not clear as to where much of this information came from. An "external links" section is not a reference section. Also note that orthodoxwiki.org cannot be used as a reference (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources). I strongly suggest using inline citations for the information in this article.

I placed the POV tag on the article because some of the denominations seem to be labeled in derogatory ways ("resistance groups" and "'Walled off'"). If references can be provided that demonstrate that these terms are indeed neutral, then the POV tag should be removed. (I would have checked the references myself, but none were given.) I don't like "resistance" or "walled off" either and because it has been two years since the above comment, I changed them to "unaffiliated". Perhaps a paragraph or a link could be added if the divisions need to be more fully explained, in a NPOV. --Bruce Hall (talk) 05:19, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonian Orthodox Diocese of America and Canada[edit]

With the recognition of the MOC-AO, should the "Macedonian Orthodox Diocese of America and Canada" be added to the list of Mainstream Churches? Coquidragon (talk) 18:19, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jurisdictions[edit]

@Veverve: I understand cutting down the subdivisions of these jurisdictions for consistency purposes, especially since many did not have a WP article. This said, here are some things to consider:
1. Since not all autocephalous churches have jurisdictions in North America, though juridically under the Greek Archdiocese, what do you think of adding the two vicariate that gathers many of those faithful:

2. As was done under the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the three diaspora groups, without listing all its dioceses, what you do think of listing OCA's:

3. For OCA, since in English "America" is used as to mean USA, what do you think of adding either a parenthesis note --(present in Canada, the United States, and Mexico)-- or just listing the two country specific dioceses:

  1. what do you think of adding the two vicariate that gathers many of those faithful: I disagree. Those two vicariates are under the GOARCH, so only the GOA should be listed. There are other vicariates under the GOA. We should not list one sub-division and not the other, whatever distinctive characteristic you use. And I have no idea where you got the idea those two vicariates are the two vicariate that gathers many of th[e] faithful. As I wrote in my invisible comment, only the highest and most general jurisdiction should be put, so none of those GOA vicariates should be added.
  2. listing OCA's [whatever]: I disagree, because the OCA operates directly and mainly in North America and it is thus useles to list each of its archdioceses, dioceses and vicariates.
  3. adding either a parenthesis note --(present in Canada, the United States, and Mexico)-- or just listing the two country specific dioceses: I disagree. If the OCA made a marketing mistake in its branding or whatever, it is not my fault. The decisive point is whether a group operates in North America mainly and directly, not the name of the group.
