There is a picture of her in the article "Secretary Says she Destroyed...". The proquest copy is too poor to use though.

Here's a picture: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2005/05/31/PH2005053101008.html PedanticallySpeaking 17:41, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

And here's her mother: [1] PedanticallySpeaking 17:55, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

Looking at her photo she is not a terribly bas looking woman, even in 1940 (whe she was middle aged). It is supprising that her and Hoover never had any type of relationship. William.

In the movie she is good looking and a relationship with Hover was shown as dating. As the article implies, she may have been married to her job.

This article has been vandalized![edit]

The Helen Gandy hyperlink leads to a vandalized page with an offensive misogynisitic message.--Pinko1977 06:14, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It was just vandalized again, 10:33. Looks on the history page like it has been under assult all night. Maybe the dead hand of Hoover continues to act on this isse... :) WayeMason 10:42, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of main page FAs is quite common. This one looks no worse off than any others. →Raul654 16:52, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Would that it was a FBI plot rather than simple human nature... sigh. WayeMason 18:28, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So What About The Hoover Files?[edit]

So the files that Gandy destroyed - anyone have any guesses as to content? Brasswatchman August 13, 2005. 7:21 PM EST.

Um, Hoover was the head of the FBI for 50 years, during which time it had basically unchecked power. It's widely acknowledged , however never proven, that he had all the dirt on everybody, which is why everyone went out of their way to be very, very nice to him. In fact much about Hoover is speculation, other than first hand accounts of those that were within the FBI and had actual contact with him. →Raul654 00:08, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

Middle name[edit]

What is the source of her middle name? And is that spelling right. Cf William Wilberforce. 66.213.119.98 15:57, 16 August 2005 (UTC) (aka User:PedanticallySpeaking)[reply]

Removed Gandy's mother's portrait[edit]

Was looking at well-done Eakins oil portrait, then saw the caption: it's Gandy's mother. Unless Gandy herself had some relation to the artist, or the mother's being with the artist had some effect on Gandy, it really makes no sense to have an oil portrait of the mother in an article about the daughter. Seems to me like a clear case of WP:COATRACK. That is: it's true, but it's not relevant.--Petzl (talk) 10:08, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why I included primary sources[edit]

1. Gandy is of public interest enough to have been portrayed in multiple movies.

2. Census forms are easily understandable by observant members of the public. So are death certificates. In presenting these, I'm not proposing a speculation, interpretation or thesis. They describe Gandy as head of household in 1940 and 1950 and Morrow is described as "partner." Morrow's residence before the nursing home is the same address listed in the 1950 census. Gandy moved to Florida the year Morrow died. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 11:48, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
