An unfortunate edit[edit]

User:Salad Days recently moved this article to a new name ("56 (game)"), then wiped its contents clean. Now the rather extensive history of this article has been disconnected. I'm not certain of the right procedure in this situation, but thought I'd start by posting this message. Anyone who cares to look at the history of "56 (number)" prior to February, 2007 ought to consult the history page for "56 (game)". DavidCBryant 14:18, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The story started with an anon blanking 56 (number). Then in a few days somebody else saw the blank page and created an article about the game 56 (note that the IP of the guy who blanked, 71.233.129.128, is very similar to the IP of the guy who created the game, 71.250.232.151, although that's probably a coincidence).
I moved back 56 (game) to 56 (number) and reverted to the pre-blank version. The game itself doesn't seem notable enough to have its article. Its text is in the history though, if anybody cares about re-creating 56 (game). Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:14, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correction?[edit]

The article contains the line "Adding up the divisors of 1 through 8 gives 56" which seems incorrect (or perhaps just unclear what the writer meant?) as the sum of 1 through 8 is 36, and the sum of the actual divisors of 56 that are between 1 and 8 is 1+2+4+7+8 = 22 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.202.122.2 (talk) 15:07, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it should say that 56 is the sum of [the sum of the divisors of 'n'] for n going from 1 through 8. Which then might be clearer.
Example: sum of the divisors of 4 is 1+2+4=7, of 6 is 1+2+3+6=12, etc... add all theses numbers from 1 to 8, and you get (1) + (1+2) + (1+3) + 1+2+4) + (1+5) + (1+2+3+6) + (1+7) + (1+2+4+8) = 56. Dhrm77 (talk) 19:23, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

trisector[edit]

A 56-gon “is constructible if the use of an angle trisector is allowed since 56 = 2³ × 7.”

Might help to clarify that a heptagon can be made with a trisector (and a 2n-gon can be derived from an n-gon by classical means); otherwise one might suppose the use of a trisector has something to do with the only '3' in the factorization! —Tamfang (talk) 07:51, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
