Anglophones vs Germans[edit]

I find it rather offensive that this article focusses on the purile English humour to be derived from the name rather than on the actual Bavarian community. Is it legitimate to discuss other cultures from such a blatantly anglophone perspective? And does the joke really have to be spelled out? I think the point that Anglophones find it amusing and go there because of it is interesting enough to be in Wikipedia. I've actually visited Wank, and ridden the Wankbahn, largely for the humorous photo opportunities; the extremely subtle reference to a climax isn't distracting, and still manages tof it the tone of the article. There's nothing overtly sexual or offensive about it, just a very well-hidden tongue-in-cheek joke. The article is still completely factual. The article has changed since I made that comment in 2006; there was nothing subtle about the text I objected to. But even a subtle laughing at other cultures (and what is more closely linked to our cultural identity than our place names?) is very offensive. "Poor, sad person?" This isn't the place for flaming, Doric. I'm well aware of the other "enriching" cultural activities I could partake in while traveling in Germany, and I didn't make the trip to the region exclusively to visit Wank. There's nothing particularly offensive about noting inter-language puns. My Spanish friends find it hilarious, for example, that I once drove a Chevy Nova; it cracked them up that my vehicle "doesn't go" by translation. I'd say that place names aren't nearly as inextricably linked to cultural identities so much as the places themselves. The residents of Hell, Michigan find the punning possibilities an invaluable tool for tourism. Perhaps Wank should consider a similar business model. In any case, telling me via a Wiki Talk page what deep-seated problems of cultural sensitivity and puerile humor I have seems to undermine the very purpose of this page. The purpose of the page is to give information on a mountain. That's all. The dirty joke which is nothing else really has no place in this project. I suggest that the Anglophones win (see header name), due to Doric having absolutely no sense of humour. Also, assuming Doric is German, he seems to exude a particularly stereotypical nature...which makes it all the more amusing.
