Numbers in GW[edit]

Heero == One (Language?)

Une == One (French)

Duo == Two (Italian, many other Latin derivatives)

Trowa == Three (Language?)

Trois == Three (French)

Quatre == Four (Italian or French, other Latin derivatives)

Wu == Five (Chinese "五" pronouced Wu)

Zechs == Six (pronunciation of 6 in German, "Sechs")

Noin == Nine (pronunciation of 9 in German, "Neun")

Treize == Thirteen (French)

References: French numbers, Italian numbers, German numbers

Trowa might be derived from the French for 3, Trois. Also, 5 in French is Cinq, which is either the exact spelling or close to the spelling of the Sanq Kingdom (depending on how you spell it.)

I believe the name Heero is related to the kun-reading of the Japanese number one: hito(tsu). Also Odin is Russian for one.--81.151.173.142 18:08, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Synopsises[edit]

Hello. I've struck out the synopses which were put in by User:67.85.51.155. See [2]. The synopses were copied verbatim from [3]. Just a note to other editors -- we MUST be careful to avoid copyright problems. Thank you for your attention to this issue. Happy editing, Wile E. Heresiarch 04:46, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Heero's Real Name[edit]

Heero's real name isn't Odin Lowe, Jr., but rather an alias Odin Lowe gave him. This is a common misconception among Gundam Wing fans.

I agree Heero's real name isn't Odin Lowe Jr. And many so-called fans do not grasp this, I think because they are not real fans anyway.

I believe Heero's real name is Jonathan, but you can correct me if it proves to be wrong.--AKIRA70 (talk) 20:54, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Series Title[edit]

I've seen the term "Mobile Report" used extensively as the title for Gundam Wing. However, Shin Kidou Senki translates out as New Mobile Military History (literally) or New Mobile War Chronicle. Is there a known origin for the english language use of "Mobile Report," or is that a term that originated with the english language fanbase?

  • I wonder the same. But the Japanese Wikipedia has the text "NEW MOBILE REPORT GUNDAM WING" as it is after the Japanese text for the title, like if it were the official translation. Sadly, I haven't seen it anywhere on the official JP sites, just the kanji logo or the butchered dub name "Mobile Suit GW" 190.209.88.106 (talk) 03:37, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quatre's Suspected Berber Origin[edit]

Hi I was fascinated by the depth of the information on the Gundam Wing seris that Wikipedia has (becuase i haven't found anything like it anywhere else) but i was fascinated by the note about Quatre's middle name. I'm not contesting it but i'd like to hear the rationale, or the logic process, as to how whomever wrote the article came to the conclusion he was probably a Berber. That orgin certainly has a really nice fit. Oh, i was also interested in trying to find out what Quatre's middle name might mean, so if anyone can give me a good link to an english berber dictionary or a list of berber names or words, I'd be extremely grateful! =^_^= Oh, one last thing. I also agree that fans who cannot comprehend that Odin Lowe Jr. isn't Heero's real name are probably not true fans either. Poor Heero probably can't even remember what his parents must have looked like much less what they named him, just like poor Trowa ::gives Trowa and Heero a big hug:: :P Anyway, thank you for your time and cooperation! Email any questions, comments or helpful info to TimeStarPrincess@aol.com 12/27/2005 3:30 AM EST you guys talk like three year olds with hi and stuff and "givees trowa and heero a big hug" i mean if you guys are gonna talk about something be serious for real

Miscelaneous Comments[edit]

From the article: "The producers of the series grudgingly acknowledge the existence of the fanwork, but their reaction appears reserved, particularly due to the large amount of merchandise these fans buy. Some traditional fans of Gundam, largely military sci-fi fans, were less pleased with the show, citing poorly perceived battle sequences and shoddy philosophy." These assertions could do with some references to support them. Anyone got any links to websites? stephenw32768 21:15, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Romefeller Political Party?[edit]

I was searching for some soundtrack info on Gundam Wing and recall seeing some sort of actual political party platform for the Romefeller Foundation, has anyone else come across this on google?

Good Article[edit]

I just like to say that i find this article quite of high quality and think someone should atlease nominate it for 'good article' status. Their are constant contributotions everyday. Thanks to all the contributors. Tutmosis 19:21, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heero's voice actor link[edit]

I'm new to Wikipedia, and still not entirely sure how everything works yet, so all I can do right now is point out errors and hope someone else can fix them. Anyway, the page that comes up from the link to Heero's voice actor, Mark Hildreth, is incorrect. The page that comes up is for a wrestler, when it should be the other page titled Mark Hildreth, who is a voice actor. I just don't know how to change an automatic link. Thanks to anyone who can fix this.

Character Bases[edit]

Where is the section about the main characters and the characters from the UC timeline they are "based off of"? 69.124.143.230 04:54, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

trowa barton[edit]

i don't know if this will make me well not a gundamwing fan but i kind of think that trowas story is sad and confusing to me although i really like the way they drew him and i think his really cool oh and i don't think Cathy is that nice to be his sis and who ever heard of someone choosing his own name i mean i would have named my self what i like in the first place!Trowa barton 09:36, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First unedited anime?[edit]

"The uncut version, shown at midnight, was completely unedited, making history for Cartoon Network, which, at the time, had never before shown an unedited anime."

http://www.thexbridge.com/timeline.html

"July 1995: Cartoon Network airs an anime movie festival, which included Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, Twilight of the Cockroaches, and Lensman in late-primetime slot."

A long time ago, but Cartoon Network did run some anime at a late slot that most noteably included Vampire Hunter D with all the blood and gore intact. It was probably still edited for nudity, but it's uncertain if the other anime that they showcased were uneditied or not. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Spydakween (talkcontribs) 20:04, 28 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

First Gundam Franchise released in America[edit]

"Gundam Wing was the first anime in the Gundam franchise to be dubbed and released in English, airing on Cartoon Network in the United States in 2000."

From what I remember, Gundam 0080 and Gundam 0083 were both released before Gundam Wing dubbed and subtitled on VHS through Animevillage (which later became Bandai Entertainment)

HD Re-release?[edit]

I read somewhere that the series was re-released in HD on DVD in Japan recently, is this true and should it be included in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.51.35.100 (talk) 12:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction[edit]

If there's something more important than saying that a series is broadcast on some channel is to say first what is the series itself. If I read at the beginning it was broadcast by Animax in Japan, I still don't know what the article is based on; so I'm going to improve the introduction to make it more presentable. If you want to see how the article began its text, here it is:

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, known in Japan as New Mobile Report Gundam W (新機動戦記ガンダムW, Shin Kidō Senki Gandamu Uingu?), was aired across Japan on the anime satellite television network, Animax, and the terrestrial TV Asahi network. It ran for forty-nine half-hour episodes, beginning on April 7, 1995 and ending on March 29, 1996. Directed by Masashi Ikeda and written by Katsuyuki Sumizawa (Yoroiden Samurai Troopers) with music by Kō Ōtani, the series was loosely based on the original 1979 Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yatate.

Animax aired 146.000.000 anime series, so that doesn't make special this one. --Twicemost (talk) 23:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Khushrenada Philosophy 101[edit]

Shouldn't there be a mention of the impact of Treize's character to the philosophy of Gundam Wing? Many concepts of social and political contemplations of Gundam Wing come from this character and I think it should at least be addressed in his article or a mention in the main article in abstract. Does anyone else agree with me YES or NO?--AKIRA70 (talk) 21:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
YES. The keys to political victory in Wing were the hearts of the colony citizens and the power of the Earth government and Treize was at the forefront of the Earth government for almost all of Wing. In addition, in Endless Waltz his policies and ideas are mentioned a few times as being noble and a good path for humanity(I can't agree with that but that's what the charachters say) so clearly a mention is necessary.

Sioraf (talk) 20:26, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

YES, "Give man a war so big, so massive, so gruesome, so frightful that they would hate war, that's the time peace will come." -Treize This is in my opinion a good philosophy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.50.178.38 (talk) 07:23, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ENGLISH DUB COMPANY[edit]

WHAT COMPANY DID THE ENGLISH DUB? FUNIMATION? VIZ? SOME KIND OF BANDAI AMERICA BRANCH USED FOR DUBBING THEIR ANIMES? I REMEMBER HEARING ITS OCEAN AND THATS A REAL POSSIBILITY SINCE I COULD ASSOCIATE IT WITH THE RECOGNIZED FAMILIAR VOICE TALENTS OF BRIAN DRUMMOND AND SCOTT MCNEIL. THIS ARTICLE SHOULD SPECIFY OCEAN OR WHATEVER COMPANY DUBBED IT IN AN AREA THATS APPROPRIATE ESPECIALLY SINCE IT LISTS ALL THE ENGLISH VOICE ACTORS —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.186.100.173 (talk) 14:15, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

US anime sales[edit]

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/bandai_downsizing_ken_iyadomi_interview

Bandai Entertainment says the anime was one of their 5 top sellers ever (#1 being Cowboy Bebop). Quite a distinction. --Gwern (contribs) 22:49 3 January 2012 (GMT)

Cast[edit]

Under the characters article, it says Dave Ward plays Doctor J, but here it says it's Don Brown. Which one is true? Also I read some sources say Michael Dobson does the voice of Duke Dermail, it is him or Jim Byrnes? Jim Byrnes's wikipedia article doesn't list Gundam Wing and Michael Dobson's article does, listing Duke Dermail right beside Darlian 24.65.123.9 (talk) 04:49, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
