Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

Actually, cities are not within towns in NY, except in a geographical sense; the same is true for villages. Cities and Villages are part of the state, not the towns or even the counties.

misleading date?[edit]

The sidebar and text disagree about the foundation date for the county; pretty sure text is right. I'm going to double-check this, and then correct it. (I live in the City of Ithaca)

I called the County Clerk today to ask what date the county was formed in 1817 (doing genealogy & it matters to my records). I was transferred to the Legislature Office and was told that TC was offcially created on 7 Apr 1817 and the first government meeting was held on 28 Apr 1817. If you want me to cite that, I would be glad to, but how would I do it? Wordreader (talk) 18:27, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • All claims made on Wikipedia must be verifiable. An unrecorded phone call to a nameless government employee does not meet the criteria for a reliable source. Note that while your claim that the date is "7 Apr 1817" fails verification according to a search of Google Books, the works appearing in those search results would make excellent citations to accompany the correct (and verifiable) date. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 21:22, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
