Deletion of material on influence on Comte, Saint-Simon, etc.[edit]

User ERIDU-DREAMING has removed properly-cited and long-standing material, about the influence on sociologists and Utopian socialists of Maistre's analysis of the sources of legitimacy of authority in politics. Such a step should only be taken after a consensus has been reached here in the talk page. I said as much in the comment that went with my reversal, but the same user has gone ahead and removed the material again without explanation. This really need not become a revert-war, if the normal Wikipedia practices are abided by. - Eb.hoop (talk) 00:44, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Try improving your reading skills. Your feeble stuff about his influence on some French Socialists has been retained. It has just been placed into a more relevant section. ERIDU-DREAMING (talk) 10:30, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear ERIDU-DREAMING: I was not the editor who added the material in question, or the references to Armenteros. This is in no sense "my stuff." You cannot unilaterally remove long-standing material that has been adequately sourced without first discussing in in the talk page and waiting for a consensus. It is also very counterproductive to engage in personal insults in this discussion, something for which I frankly see no reason at all. If you insist in making the edits without justifying them and achieving a consensus, this will have to be submitted to arbitration. - Eb.hoop (talk) 15:06, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You will notice that it is you who is the editor who keeps reverting, but you always fail to apply your criticisms to yourself don't you. The fact that you did not add the material is irrelevant. Do you understand that it is irrelevant? I assumed it is your material because you are so keen to defend it. No reason is forthcoming why you are so keen to defend it. Again, you never apply the rules to yourself do you. Just to remind you

"Try improving your reading skills. [The] feeble stuff about his influence on some French Socialists [which you did not add] has been retained. It has just been placed into a more relevant section."

If you seem unable to comprehend that I suggest that you do take it to arbitration. ERIDU-DREAMING (talk) 16:21, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have explained before that I am "defending" the material because it is properly referenced. Also, it is relevant that another editor added it and that it has been in the article for a long time, indicating that other editors in the past have not had trouble with it. If I went to the article on Christopher Columbus and removed the material about his third voyage, it would be up to me to defend the deletion, not up to the editor who reverted my deletion to defend keeping the material. - Eb.hoop (talk) 16:26, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What an absurd comparison. Firstly I have not deleted the material, and secondly it is a questionable interpretation of no great significance. ERIDU-DREAMING (talk) 00:11, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Freemason?[edit]

The introduction to this article states that Joseph de Maistre is a freemason. Could someone who speaks French check this? It seems opposed to his other views. My 1913 copy of the catholic encyclopedia has an article on him and makes no mention of this, which would be strange. I have never edited Wikipedia before, but I am going to delete that part because I think it is probably vandalism. If a French speaker can confirm that he was a freemason, please revert it if I am wrong.

I am the previous poster. It is not vandalism. I am sorry for removing it. I reverted the brief mention in the biography section According to French Wikipedia he was a member of "Masonic Lodge of The Perfect Unionnote" which "intends to reconcile his membership in Freemasonry with strict Catholic orthodoxy also refuses theses who saw Freemasonry and Illuminism actors of a conspiracy that led to the Révolutionnote 19" The French article is far longer and more in depth than the English. I read the French article from google translate so I cannot really add this. Future editors should add look at the French article, as It contains a wealth of information. Imperium Press[edit]

On the one hand, they did indeed publish an English translation. On the other hand, they’re a far right publisher and it sucks that Wikipedia is driving traffic towards them. 72.95.130.125 (talk) 00:37, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
