Khymyrium[edit]

Does anyone know if Carter ever completed what he claimed was his great fantasy masterpiece Khymyrium, and if so whether there's any chance of it ever being published? Lee M 22:00, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

He did not finish it. A few short pieces he stated to be extracts from this work in progress were published in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1969 he claimed he had about ten or fifteen more years of work to put in on it before it was completed, in which case it would have been finished by about 1984. His health had collapsed by then. Bibliography[edit]

I have expanded the list of Carter's works. Believe I have about 90% or so of what he's done, if not more. --Emb021 15:24, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

POV[edit]

Removed paragraph as POV (Lee M 03:44, 14 August 2005 (UTC)):[reply]

While not a pioneer or an innovator like Burroughs, Lovecraft or Howard, Carter had a good storytelling talent and he was capable of delivering long descriptive passages of alien landscapes or ornate architectures keeping the reader interested, thanks to a vivid and enticing style.

Writing Career[edit]

Is there a source for the statement "[..] de Camp is the person with whom Carter is most closely associated as a writer. A falling-out in the last decade of Carter's life did not become generally known until after his death."? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.33.17 (talk) 15:13, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Evangeline Walton[edit]

Contrary to the article, Evangeline Walton was a new author, not one whom Carter brought out of obscurity. In fact, LC actually gave her first published work The Island of the Mighty its title. Walton's original was The Virgin and the Swine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.92.43.131 (talkcontribs) 01:24, 6 January 2006

First, you might want to sign your comment. Four tildes does it for you. Now, to the point. You are correct about the original title and LC's retitling of it, but wrong on everything else. The book was published long before under the first title, and bombed (probably because of the title. Carter retitled and reprinted it, and then went on to publish the other works in the series, some of which had already been written. He did bring her out of obscurity; she was not a "new" writer. Trap-Door Spiders[edit]

That it was an all-male eating club makes sense. Changing it to "all-white", as an anonymity recently did, is like mentioning the "all-white Vice-Presidency of the U.S."--Wetman (talk) 08:27, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
