How is this the highest if the Pissing Mare falls[1]entry says it is 564 m

- in response to above comment: im not sure which of these is right, ive been told for some years that della is the tallest, so maybe im just not ready to accept otherwise. I will have to comment however that the Atlas of Canada is probably a more reliable source for those facts. In any case, Ive contacted the atlas, and will wait until they give me a response before i make any drastic changes.

by the way... do we really want 'Pissing Mare Falls' ... lol... to be the tallest falls in Canada. If that isnt a newfie name I dont know what is (no offence to the newfoundlanders).

With the highest total vertical drop, measured at 440[2] metres, Della Falls is the highest waterfall in Canada,[2] though several other waterfalls in British Columbia are thought to exceed 600 metres: Alfred Creek Falls,[3][4] Deserted River Falls,[5][6] Francis Falls,[7] and Gold Creek Falls;[8] this is not in vertical height, so they may not be considered the tallest.

Della Falls is not the tallest waterfall in Canada by any measure, its that simple. The Atlas of Canada has grossly inaccurate information and doesn't seem to view updating as a priority (which I can't necessarily blame them for). There is no other kind of height other than "vertical height", height is a measure from the top of an object to the bottom of an object. If the issue is free-falling waterfalls versus waterfalls that stay in contact with the bedrock, or waterfalls that drop in more than one step, then Della Falls needs to be shrunk by 2/3 of its height, because it has three distinct steps and is not a 440 meter free fall.

Alfred Creek Falls and Deserted River Falls are both estimated to be as tall as they are based on very rough information. We've reexamined the maps for Alfred Creek recently and will most likely revise our height estimate with our next major overhaul of the World Waterfall Database. Deserted River Falls is a complete unknown so far. Gold Creek Falls and Francis Falls, however, are both measured with a margin of error of no more than 30-60 meters for each fall. Gold Creek Falls consists of three distinct drops - like Della Falls - and Francis Falls is one single horsetail with possibly a series of cascades both at its base and brink.

We've also uncovered one called Bishop Falls in the far northwestern corner of British Columbia which drops 496 meters in two drops in very very quick succession (its less than 20 meters between the two and at high flow, may actually visually become one drop). So really no matter how its sliced, Della has had its crown usurped.

For sure not the highest, enough said![edit]

"Della Falls is not the tallest waterfall in Canada by any measure, its that simple." One could not have put it any better, it is NOT the highest & everyone knows it. In fact, its not even the highest on Vancouver Island, as Kiwi Falls & Woss River Falls are both higher. Actually, to be truthful, looking at google earth, its not even the highest in Strathcona Provincial Park since Volcano Falls on the outlet stream from Volcano Lake appears to crack the 2000 feet mark. Anyhow, although it is officially the highest, it actually isn't.

Alfred Creek Falls[edit]

I've seen several photos of Alfred Creek Falls & it doesn't even look like a waterfall. It just looks like a big talus cascade comin off a glacier. There might be sections that could be considered legit waterfall but not anything close to 2000 feet worth.

Deserted River Falls[edit]

Lookin at Google Earth the falls at the Deserted Lake Outlet sure do look significant. However, until some photos of it pop up, one can't say that it is or isn't the highest simply because topo maps and satellite photography can only do so much. Some day someone will get a good look at it (maybe me, when I get my private helicopter i've always wanted to get).

Gold Creek Falls[edit]

I plan on, this summer, drivin all the way up Harrison Lake East FSR & havin a little looksie at the falls. Once again, there is no photos to prove anything, however, I'll make sure when I get back to make an article on it (I may do an article before I go there, however since not much is known about the falls, the article wouldn't be terribly detailed or informative) & i'll DEFINETLY put one of the pics I take of it on. I suspect I'll be doin that in August.

Francis Falls[edit]

I know virtually nothing about the falls for several reasons. First, it's not marked on my Backroad Mapbook. Second, I can't find it on Google Earth since & I do not think BCGNIS has a page for it. And Lastly, because the only internet photos of it say '"forbidden" when I try to open them. Hopefully someone will post some more pictures of it on the net (that are not "forbidden" lol).

Bishop Falls[edit]

I'd be very interested to know more about these falls since I never knew they even existed prior to someone mentioning them here. If anyone has some info on them, plz tell me, cuz I'd like to know more about these falls.

Removal of Links[edit]

I removed references to pages about Alfred Creek Falls, Deserted River Falls, Gold Creek Falls & Francis Falls on the World Waterfall Database on Waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest. Why did I do that? Cuz I don't know why there were on the Della Falls since they have nothing to do with Della Falls other than height differences. Anyway, 2 of the 4 now have seperate articles written bout them (& a third one on Gold Creek Falls will be coming this summer after I make the trip there).
