Untitled[edit]

I seem to recall this place being different as a kid...I went there yesterday, and it isn't very cramped or bright now. It just looks like an Indigo store. Adam Bishop 19:36, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adam,it may not be as cramped, but it sure doesn't look like an Indigo store.

Can anybody confirm the claims made in the article with sources? I thought that the Barnes and Noble in New York has the most books because I've been there and it doesn't seem all that big but it has stacks and stacks of books; and I think the Waterstone's in Piccadilly, London has the most floor space because it is six stories. Also I don't think WBB was ever actually the biggest in the world in terms of floor space or number of books because there are many bookstores in London that have been around for much longer and seem much bigger. Anyway if someone could confirm, with sources, that the claims made in the article are true it would put my mind at ease. Kitchenerite 11:30, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These kinds of claims are hyperbole and impossible to verify. All we can do is say the claim went "unchallenged" - as far as I know this is accurate, unless someone can find a source that says otherwise. Unchallenged in the sense, no one else had a store titled "biggest in the world", or marketed themselves as such. Green Cardamom (talk) 02:06, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction about when the store opened[edit]

I found this article very hard to read, and have attempted to make it more encyclopedic in style and the sentences more focused. One problem left unsolved is that the article gives both 1978 and 1980 as the date of opening. I've marked the 1980 text as a contradiction but have so far not determined which is correct. How large?[edit]

The article makes several claims about rankings (floor space, shelf space, number of titles), but does not give any actual figures, except for an unsourced claim about "20 km of bookshelves". What is the actual floor space? How many titles are actually available in the store?

(I was there yesterday, and it did not look that impressive. Only two floors, plus some space for French books. Ok, the two floors are pretty large, but still.)

Sad[edit]

Was in Toronto in July 2014 and was sad to see this great bookstore closed - at first couldn't believe it. It was great fun to wander the aisles and find obscure books that never new existed. Very sad.
