Wow. I've been (passively) looking for this page for a while—months, at least. Before I redirected BMW Motorsport in, the only link was from the BMW page itself, and was well-buried there. Hopefully this will bring some more eyes to the page. --Milkmandan 05:20, 2005 Feb 4 (UTC)

2006 Model Year[edit]

Vrrrooooom!!! Well, BMW has moved on to producing the 2006 version of the 3 series, so, the E46 ///M3 version is basically no longer on the market. As such, I've played with the wording and location of the models under in the latter part of the article. Only the M5 and M6 are currently being produced. Added a link in Previous Models[edit]

Added the M535i to the list of previous models. Rather than list it as the "E12 M535i", I'll let the link to the BMW E12 Special Models section speak for itself. Also I might go add some minor updates with information to the BMW E12 page reflecting the M535i's history as the first official BMW M car (discounting the M1 as a homogolation special). Biturbo >> N54 or R6 ?[edit]

Can anybody tell me if the in 2007 expected 3 liter straight six bi-turbo engine will be the magnesium R6 or the alluminium N54.

Brakes?[edit]

E36 M3 did not come in a 4 door[edit]

Orphaned references in BMW M[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of BMW M's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Z8[edit]

Reason for the page move "BMW M to BMW M Series"?[edit]

BMW M is a company (GmbH can be compared to LLC) not a Series. So please explain or move back.--BSI (talk) 12:30, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I could not wait. The Page name "BMW M Series" is just plain wrong, simply for the reason noted above (that "BMW M" is a company not a series). If you would for example take a look in the car registration papers for (most) BMW M cars, it will list "BMW M" as the manufacturer, not model.--BSI (talk) 13:06, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First M Car?[edit]

"Many think that the first M car was the BMW M535i produced in 1980 and 1981. It was produced to coincide with BMW's F1 racing program. But, before either of those, there was the BMW M530 Motorsport Limited Edition. In 1976, the BMW 530 MLE was produced as a homologation special (click here!) for a sedan racing series.The first of these cars was indeed constructed by BMW Motorsports. It was an experimental race car." http://www.firstfives.org/530MLE.html It also had a mention in "Classic & Sportscar, June 2014, Page 48, in 'Letters" where the claim is "First to sport the M badge." The letter also states that a single car was built by the M department of BMW Germany and Schnitzer at the request of BMW AG to compete in local production saloon races. That car was shipped out and 105 were then built at the Rosslyn plant for homologation. Just putting this here for perusal by those who really know their BMWs. Comments welcome. X1 M Sport[edit]
