Names[edit]

Talking of good Polish names: It is extremely unlikely i.m.h.o. that Weiss was born "Henry Earl." The Polish version of "Henry" is "Henryk", which was likely the name that was given to him. As for "Earl"... Earl is an English name and I find it hard to believe that Weiss received this name in Poland when he was born. But then again, anything is possible. There is no Polish version of the name Earl.

It would also be nice if someone would discover what Weiss' initial "J" stood for.

Is he half Polish-Catholic and half Jewish? Informationguy

No, he is just Polish. He just changed his name to a very Jewish sounding one. JackO'Lantern 01:48, 1 March 2006 (UTC) I believe he was one half Polish and one half German. Also, I've understood that he was born in NYC. His nickname "Hymie" is certainly Jewish sounding but he was not Jewish. Hymie was coined by members of the Chicago press corps for unknown reasons. Wojciechowski is good Polish name and Weiss is an old and common German name. Weiss was his mother's name.[reply]

Nickname?[edit]

Health (? "arterial cancer")[edit]

The article states that Weiss suffered from "arterial cancer". As an internist, let me say that such an entity doesn't exist (the closest possibility to a so-called "arterial cancer" is probably a hemangiosarcoma which is very rare and would, in any case, not explain his symptoms (nor, I'm sure, could it even be diagnosed reliably in the 1920's).

Blinding headaches, dizzy spells, and fainting spells might reflect that he suffered from migraines. More intriguingly, and retaining at least some connection to the phrase "arterial cancer", would be the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. A pheochromocytoma is a usually benign tumor of the adrenal gland characterized by paroxysms of high blood pressure often associated with headache, tremor, and sweating. Weiss's symptoms are entirely consistent with that disorder.

I suggest that "arterial cancer" be eliminated and we stick with simply listing his three symptoms (and, possibly, in brackets following them, insert ?pheochromocytoma).
