Untitled[edit]

Considering that LA18 covers both greater LA and San Diego (each with it's own transmitter), doesn't that make it a network and not an independant station? matturn 13:00, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't the San Diego broadcast just a retransmission of the LA signal. In that case it's not really a network in the classic sense. It's more like KJLA Channel 57, which I get as a simulcast on Channel 33 KSMV-LP in the Long Beach area. BlankVerse ∅ 13:29, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

update to digital subchannels[edit]

Admittedly I do not watch channel 18, but I would have thought that someone would keep to date the digital subchannels. I would add the information myself but being on dial-up internet I only have so much time.

As the date of this posting there are six subchannels: 18.1 is the primary LA18 channel, with 18.8 showing a time delayed broadcast during weeknights and Saturday. Channel 18.3 is now the MBC channel with Korean programming. Channel 18.5 is the Armenian Broadcast Network. Channel 18.6 is for "TOP TV" in Cantonese. Channel 18.7 is VZN, the Vietnamese American Network television, that started airing July 1st, 2008.--Kevin586 (talk) 19:00, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These new additions brings up an interesting question: is KSCI the first/only station to broadcast six digital subchannels? According to the digital subchannels article, the most any station can have is five video subchannels.--Kevin586 (talk) 15:08, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

I am not sure how this works but would someone mind looking at adding a disambiuation for LA 18 or otherwise explore addressing a redirect. The television station KSCI redirects from LA 18(a Louisiana highway formed cir. 1921 known as LA 18) and the lead(from the redirect) states the "station" is known on the air as LA-18. Both LA 18 and LA-18 redirect to KSCI. KSCI-TV also redirects to KSCI and this I don't really understand. The capital letters KSCI would have no meaning by themselves but adding dash(-)TV universally is accepted to refer to a television station. ""Channel 18"" gives a list that includes KSCI but I thought all television channels would have been referred to with -TV at the end to lessen confusion. I am just exploring for some consistancy since LA is commonly referred to as the state(Louisiana) and the city(Los Angeles). I realize that "For the state highway, see Louisiana Highway 18" is included on the KSCI article page but would someone give me incite on this and any possible solution? Proposal to rename (move) page[edit]

This page should be called LA 18 KSCI-TV per the official web site. [1] The station had many earlier names including KCHU-TV at inception. So why are we calling it KSCI?? I propose the article be renamed: LA 18 KSCI-TV and that the KSCI, KSCI-TV and LA-18 pages be redirected to the new page. Suggestions?   • The station has been struggling with financial problems and has recently cut several shows, including Power Breakfast, a two hour Mandarin Chinese live news magazine airing on 18.1 from 6am to 8am (PST) Monday to Friday, and Global Report, a half hour news and magazine show in Vietnamese airing on 18.1 Monday to Friday at 3pm (PST).
  • Tsou LA Mandarin Chinese, a weekly local lifestyle show airing on 18.1 every Thursday at 5pm (PST), Halo Halo Tagalog, an entertainment show airing Monday to Wednesday on 18.1 at 4pm (PST), and LA 18 Evening News Mandarin Chinese, an one hour evening news with anchors Harry Chang and Christine Chiang airing on 18.1 Monday to Friday at 6pm (PST), and Prime News Korean airs on 18.1 Monday to Friday at 8pm (PST) are still on air. LA18 also produced a series of documentaries on the Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao entitled "Kababayan LA - Manny Pacquiao Specials" following the boxer in his build up to his fights with Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.
  • The station has daily weekday programs and news in Mandarin Chinese, Tagalog (Philippines), Japanese, and Korean. On weekend mornings, it has programs in Khmer (Cambodian), Indonesian, Armenian, Arabic, and Persian. English subtitles appear on certain programs, including some of those in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. These programs are a mix of rebroadcasts from their original countries, independent productions, and KSCI-produced programs.
  • KSCI also has a number of programs in English and Hindi that feature music videos and entertainment news from Bollywood, as well as regular news from the Indian subcontinent. There are also a number of religious programs, in English, Korean, Chinese and Japanese, shown mostly in the very early morning hours. The station broadcasts infomercials in the remaining time slots.
  • KSCI's local programming include LA Living, a Mandarin-language show hosted by Juliette Zhuo that deals with life in LA for Chinese Americans, and features interviews with guests. The station also produces "Kababayan LA," a Tagalog/English language show hosted by Jannelle So serving the Filipino community.
  • There are locally produced news programs in Mandarin ("LA 18 Evening News") and Korean ("Prime News/Town Guide"). In addition, KSCI also sponsors Los Angeles-area Asian American events.

    • KSCI, and competitors KXLA, KVMD and KRET airs ethnic programming in like 25 languages on average per day.     • Another ethnic-multicultural TV station, KNLA, can be mentioned here with KSCI. They air a variety of programming in other languages like Portuguese, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Amharic, Urdu, Bengali, Burmese and Khmer (for examples). KNLA also has some Spanish-language programs for Hispanic/Latino viewers, as well a few ethnic programs for African-Americans and Native Americans. Also known as[edit]

In multiple publications it is referred to as "KSCI-TV", which means it should be listed here as a name (for the sake of scholarly pursuit, if nothing else; see MOS:LS, MOS:BOLDALTNAMES). However an editor keeps removing this and the related citations with no reason, so please discuss here. PigeonChickenFish (talk) 23:45, 11 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
