Not really a greyhound[edit]

I find the wording about the Galgo español not being a greyhound a bit confusing. I know what is meant but linguistically this distinction does not make sense. Galgo is a type of dog; English greyhounds are "Galgo inglés" (English galgo) because galgo refers to a type. Then, fair enough, "galgo español" is also a breed, with its standard, etc. It's be like saying a German shepherd isn't a real shepherd because it's not related to the English shepherd... Get me? Moreover, such types of dogs have been recreated several types through history, as modern DNA studies show... so it's best to distinguish...

I propose amending the text to this:

Despite being called a "Greyhound", the Spanish Galgo is not related to the English Greyhound. The lineages of the two breeds are different. --Mariannep (talk) 14:54, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article Name[edit]

Hmmm--shd this page really be under Galgo Español? Elf | Talk 02:44, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

yes, I think so... done - sannse (talk) 18:26, 29 Sep 2004 (UTC)
perhaps a redirect should be enabled so anyone who searchs for "Spanish Galgo" comes to this page as well. I was thinking that also the galgo page should have a mention at the top of it like "If you are looking for the dog, see "Spanish Galgo" - --24.72.59.197 (talk) 03:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hunting dog and BBC link[edit]

The chapter tells a sad story about hanging dogs, not using them as hunting dogs. And the BBC-link is about "real" greyhounds, not galgos. So quite irrelevant, eh? --86.41.85.198 (talk) 22:15, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User is correct, the link was wrong; I have corrected that. Also I take advice; section is not so much about hunting, but more about the hanging. Therefore I will add more information on hunting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.166.150.125 (talk) 11:47, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Galgo Abuse and Rescue[edit]

I'm new here, so I'm not 100% on the letter of the law. I placed a link to the Galgo Rescue International Network; is such a link appropriate? Also, would a new section on Galgo abuse (which is relatively prevalent throughout Spain) be appropriate? You can read up on it here at the Galgo Rescue International Network website. There are no disturbing or graphic images on that web pages, but there are links to such images.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vrothgarr (talkcontribs) 04:07, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

irrelevant political jabs[edit]

"Spain has suffered catastrophic events during the last century, such as the Spanish Civil War and the 40-year-long Francisco Franco fascist dictatorship, which allowed this breed to be kept relatively unknown both inside and outside of its native country, at least until democracy led to greater social and cultural equality and development." WTF is this relevant? Dogs breed better in democracy? 83.38.49.62 (talk) 15:02, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Galgos[edit]

I demand a change because galgos are kept being exploited nowadays and they don't deserve it. They are not bred to hunt nor to be inured and discarded. I demand a change 158.148.92.144 (talk) 23:50, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Change! Controversy![edit]

I demand a change because galgos are kept being exploited nowadays and they don't deserve it. They are not bred to hunt nor to be inured and discarded. I demand a change. This is an objective view, because it's true that they are not being treated like normal dogs, but simply like puppets. 158.148.92.144 (talk) 23:59, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

Greetings, I have a 1.5 year old Galga. Is there any photos from any position that could benefit this article? 108.48.55.131 (talk) 02:50, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
