At this time I have only listed the 'launch' names. Any suggestions regarding breaking into multiple shorter lists ? Oldfarm 13:35, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

What's the problem you're trying to solve? The list doesn't seem unduly long. If you want to expand each entry into a line of info (I expect most don't have enough data to support a whole article), then one strategy is to make several "list of Liberty ships A-K" etc. I don't recommend it unless you're desperate, because multiple lists need xrefs back and forth and such, a bunch of dinking around you don't want to do unless the list is close to its expected final form. Ok. It is just that it takes quite a few minutes to load on broadband. It must take forever on a modem. Oldfarm 17:49, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

It's 90K, broadband load speed from idle server would be 1-2 seconds. The usual cause of long load times is WP server overload - they're having trouble buying machines fast enough to keep up with traffic. Stan 19:38, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Links from this page[edit]

I've just wiki-linked one entry, but shouldn't all the entries be linked to their respective wikipedia pages? cardozo 15 Apr 2005

My intention was that links from here would be to an article on the history of the ship. Maybe we need another link to the namesake. See the example for SS John W. Brown and John W. Brown . I took the liberty to do the same for Benjamin N. Cardozo. Oldfarm 00:09, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

What's in a namesake[edit]

Maybe I'm dumb, but what's the point of including namesakes? The ships are named for somebody pretty clearly... Why double up? How 'bout a launch date & yard, instead (which are more traditional ship data anyhow, & more interesting), or build time? What about fates? Sunk, scrapped, blown up in the Galveston Explosion, turned into Corollas? Trekphiler 23:37, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding seperate links to namesake: Almost all the Liberty Ships were named after famous people (who were deceased it the time), and a lot of people are interested in the namesake. In many cases, the ship also had a story/history to tell. (eg: SS Henry Bacon / Henry Bacon). I agree with launch date suggestion, it is just taking a lot of time. In regards to the namesakes, I've changed a few that I've found to more clearly link to the namesakes...and I hope to an article on one of the namesakes soon. Orville Eastland 23:01, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
