Today is September 22, 2019, and Chuck Grassley is President Pro Tempore. However, a google search of "president pro tempore 2019" says "President: The current President pro tempore of the Senate is Utah Republican Orrin Hatch. Elected on January 6, 2015, he is the 90th person to serve in this office. wikipedia.org". I do not know how to fix this, but hope someone can. Karin D. E. Note for January 2023 when Murray not Feinstein assumes the post[edit]
Come January 2023, the sentence of the lead's fourth paragraph regarding the most senior U.S. senator in the majority party generally being chosen to be president pro tempore—This tradition has been observed without interruption since 1949.—will be obsolete. I propose adding a few sentences to the end of that paragraph stating something like The current president pro tempore of the Senate is Patty Murray. The second-most senior senator in the majority party, she was sworn in on January 3, 2023, at the start of the 118th Congress. (Words about the current president pro tempore of the Senate are presently in a separate fifth paragraph of the lead, which would be eliminated.) Drdpw (talk) 20:33, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
