May 2005 revisions[edit]

I have made extensive revisions to this article as part of an effort of mine to upgrade and improve the articles for Oz characters. The old article was basically only about the character as he appears in the classic books. I have added information about the subsequent movie as well as the modern revisionist works. --MatthewUND 05:41, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Song on American Idol[edit]

Add the part where the song sung by the Cowardly Lion in the movie was on the season premeiere of American Idol and it was sung by a female contestant and please add the name. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.82.9.57 (talkcontribs) 03:16, January 17, 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that this is particularly noteworthy, and I've removed it. If anyone disagrees, please explain why a song sung by a contestant who is eliminated in the first round of a reality show/talent contest is of any particular importance. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 03:43, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plot warning[edit]

This article needs a plot warning and I don't know how to add that. It does reveal the plot and story of wonderful wizard of oz though. 71.215.78.49 05:31, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A spoiler warning can be added by typing {{spoiler}}. However, the inclusion of spoiler warnings is somewhat controversial and is currently being debated. See Wikipedia:Spoiler and related pages for details. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 20:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

McFarlane toy removed[edit]

I've removed the following from the article:

Todd McFarlane's action figure line 'The Twisted Land of Oz', shows the lion as a walking corpse holding his entrails; according to the accompanying story, he was a crusader in a past life that betrayed his men in the heat of battle.

I don't think that this toy line is sufficiently notable to merit inclusion in the article for the Cowardly Lion, and have already asked if there are any objections at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Oz and Talk:McFarlane Toys. If anyone has evidence that this toy line and its accompanying story were particularly noteworthy (e.g. coverage in mainstream media), it can be restored. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 20:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lion in "The Wiz"[edit]

I was going to add something about the discovery of the Lion on the steps of the New York Public Library in the film version of The Wiz (film), but I realized that I didn't know how the Lion was portrayed in the stage version (which isn't set in New York). If anyone knows, it should probably be mentioned (briefly). —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 02:46, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lead is way too confusing[edit]

"His name is self-applied, as he does not understand that courage means acting in the face of fear, not simply being fearful, when he believes he should be fearless, which he is only one time, when he is under the influence of an unknown substance."

This is a confusing, run-on sentence. I'm not even sure I have any idea what all that is supposed to mean. I am removing it entirely, and encourage someone who knows more about the character than I do to write a more understandable sentence for the lead. --DearPrudence 19:19, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the picture really ideal?[edit]

The picture in the top-right corner of the article... should it really be among the illustrations in the book? I would have expected more people to recognize this as the Cowardly Lion. At the very least, that picture should be somewhere in the article! I mean, there are people out there who know the 1939 movie, by heart, but never knew that it was actually based off a book!Wikieditor1988 (talk) 21:42, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lion is given a medal[edit]

This article has a section on the lion's medal, but, prior to this section, does not inform readers that the lion is given a medal when he meets the Wizard of Oz. Vorbee (talk) 11:48, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
