Word origin

I feel strongly that the word puck comes from the same root as the Scottish Gaelic for shinty ball ie cnapag (knapuk), this would have been elided down into 'puck' by our French Irish and English speaking friends. Seems perfectly straight forward to me. Al Hunter

 – Article moved and restructured.

This page needs to be moved to Puck (sports), rewritten slightly to discuss the general concept of a puck and what games it applies to, and then have the bulk of the rest of the article be about ice hockey pucks, since that's what we have the most material on. Right now it is confusing to readers to have links like puck in articles like Novuss. Puck (sports) → Hockey puck — Despite what SMcCandlish wrote above, this article is still almost exclusively about hockey pucks, and I submit that's the common name for the item (absent just "puck" which is ambiguous). If the article is ever expanded to include information about other types of pucks (though I submit they perhaps might go in their own articles), then we can discuss changing the name back. Until then, this article is clearly only about (ice/roller/water) hockey pucks. --Powers ^T 15:48, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Delay of game paragraph

I have just deleted the paragraph regarding the icing rule. It is irrelevant to this article about the puck itself. I am also going to delete the paragraph about the penalty for shooting the puck over the glass. It follows the paragraph about the death of the young girl. But that is not why the rule was introduced (4 years after the incident). So it misleads the reader into thinking there is a relationship. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 09:21, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
