Lemma[edit]

As usual for this situation, I moved the one-genus family to the genus name, but not to "abalone" because it refers to several different creatures. It would be good to include a list of "best-known" species at least. Stan 20:35, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Thanks Stan. I appreciate your improvements. The list of Haliotis species is coming. I'm in the process of checking and checking again the facts, since many authors differ on some names. JoJan 07:37, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

The abalone article isn't anything like as this one, and contradicts it (it talks about several genera in Halotidae). If anyone who knows the literature can sort it out, it would be a service. seglea 19:07, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

As far as I can see, in the abalone article the author writes about 'various SPECIES' and not 'GENERA'. In Haliotidae and Haliotis, articles I wrote, I only speak of ONE genus Haliotis. I don't think that there is any contradiction. But you are right in this respect : there is contradiction in the literature about the number of species. Some treat some species as subspecies, others don't. Anyway, thanks for your attention. JoJan 20:03, 10 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

4-7 subspecies?[edit]

There's a problem in the main article:

There is only one genus Haliotis, and about four to seven subspecies.

Is this supposed to say "four to seven subgenera"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nereocystis (talkcontribs) 00:05, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

You're right. I have changed the text. JoJan 12:10, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

References useless - links have to be fixed[edit]

JoJan has obviously made some mistake when he was trying to move the "wikitable" from its origin by simply c&p. --84.141.17.104 (talk) 18:03, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Revision history incomplete - please restore[edit]

Where are the versions and edits of this article that have been made prior to October 2014? It seems they have not been properly secured when this action has been made. --84.141.17.104 (talk) 18:40, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Abalone page?[edit]

Should the Abalone page and the Haliotis page be merged? They seem to deal with the same topic.

(I found this out when I wanted to learn the French word for Abalone and was surprised there was no French page linked from the English one. Turns out the French page Haliotis is linked to the English page Haliotis, so it can't link to the English Abalone page as well.)

(Posted in Abalone talk page as well) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arshwana (talkcontribs) 17:38, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
