Dec 22 2007. I notice there is no mention of the rape-charges recently brought up against Toledo. Recently the woman charging him of rape apparently attempted to commit suicide

See here: http://www.livinginperu.com/news/4831 and here: http://www.livinginperu.com/news/5201

In the first news link, a congressman Spinoza is quoted: "I'm ashamed to have had a president of this nature. We all know of his orgies, and that he was caught at Melody Hotel (...), it is also known that he consumed cocaine when they found him at San Pablo Clinic."

-I see no mention of a Melody Hotel incident, or a San Pablo Clinic incident in the Wikipedia article on Toledo.

If anyone has information on those incidents, or the rape charges, it would be interesting to see an addition to the page, or even a special section like "controversies".

The information (message below) about the Alejandro Toledo's true Ph.D is very interesting, because Toledo tends to present himself as a doctor in Economics even on his official CV (do a google search) what leads to confusion. For my part, i found a link from the Business School's web-page where Toledo is teacher within his country, which confirm he is a doctor in Education :

http://www.esan.edu.pe/english/PAGINAS/t.htm

or click here

Moreover, the "cached" version of the link brought by the message below is here

Or here :

Given the scarcity of these informations I added the appropriate external-link

There ought to be more information regarding where Toledo falls on the political spectrum. His stance on free trade, for instance, is buried in the middle of the article.--12.208.117.177 03:22, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alejandro Toledo Manrique is a corrupt, he used corruption in the judiciary for 15 years to keep him off a paternity test order to prove his parenthood of his daughter Zarai Toledo. Only when the last judge in this case was caught in a TV interview admiting he joined Toledo to discuss off-court a ruling on this matters, Toledo had to admit he was the father of Zarai Toledo in a presidential TV message. Toledo is also involved in a forgery case of filling signature forms to his party, one witness of this crime (Carmen Burga) and her family were driven out of the country with their papers made off-hours and without due documentation by Toledo's men. Toledo is known in Peru for his family of criminals, featuring Miguel Toledo, guilty of rape of Miladi Rojas. Toledo defended him saying this criminal case was irrelevant and that he was a victim of a plot by her. Toledo uses to spend huge government money in luxury hotels, and travel. He spended once 100 thousand dollars in a travel to USA for attending a Stanford graduation in the presidential plane.

its very lame this page gets vandalised. A. Toledo, as proved by hard data is not as a catastrophic president as the last 2 posters portrait him. his unpopularity is basically due to neoliberal formation, which is against what peruvians are used to from past populist regimes.

If he was elected arguing that he will destroy corruption, why we must say that he is a good president? He is corrupt, as much as the previous administration. Also, peruvians can blame Neoliberalims as a sin, but without it, I wouls have been virtually impossible to recover the country from the economic crisis that was present during the Garcia Administration. It can be wrong, let the economist debate on that. Also, much of the economic bonanza usualy goes to the elite political class of the country. Messhermit 06:16, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

For a frequently vandalised page, how about starting some debate about the issues? User:Greenman 21 October 2003 The demagogy, incapacity, falseness and many more "skills" has got a face - Alejandro Toledo. The worsst thing is that the so called democrats defend this individual who will be remembered as the best example of improvisation, missmanagement. The accusations against the former president Fujimori are a sample of political motivated nonsens, under the democracy, human rights fasade. Its incredible that a famous peruvian writer, Mario Vargas Llosa, was part of this infamous campaign, together with the former UN General Secretary , Javier Perez de Cuellar. It's not a coincidence that both were defeated by Fujimori and they supported Toledo in the elections as a form of revenge, the most childish way of revenges. The problem is that the poor peruvians pay that erroneous choice of such a corrupt figure like Toledo.

well, Toledo is better than Fujimori, who was probably on of the most corrupted presidents in history, as he bribed pretty much all of the tv stations in Peru, plus numerous other corruption cases that left Peru in the state that it is right now. To say that Toledo wasnt a way for the people to say that they were tired of the corruption from the former administration, is just chauvinism.
Did Fujimori also bribe the Peruvian Central Bank to stop the triple digit hyperinflation as well? (Remember the Inti, and the Nuevo Sol?)68.190.213.41 05:11, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As a peruvian, I agree in almost everything that you said. But I must also say that Javier Perez de Cuellar didn´t have and important role in the "democratic opposition" and their poor imitation of a "Velvet Revolution". The main players here where Alan Garcia and the renmants of the political class of the 80s. Alejandro Toledo was nothing more than a pawn (or a Troyan Horse) to reach their goals: a return to the political arena. User:Messhermit 27 November 2004

I'm not Peruvian, but it seems that a good portion of negative stuff that was removed a month ago had no reason to be removed. I'm putting a lot of it back, with as much NPOV as I can, but I'll admit I'm not too familiar with it. If you think it sounds biased, please try to NPOV it for me. If you think it projects an overly negative image of him, then add some positive stuff he's done. In any case, if it's a fact, whether it makes him look bad or not, please don't delete it.

Private University[edit]

In the heading, it says that Toledo "was invited by a private university to "think about the future". Does anyone know what university this is referring to? Mmace91 23:01, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

You all seriously need to work on your English grammar.

Here are a list of additional unresolved problems: Fishmonger is a British-only term. Soccer is an American-only term. Wikipedia policy indicates that only one type of English should be used on a page. We need to figure out which one was in use first and standardize (standardise) the page for one type of English.

A lot of the claims in the article seem poorly sourced. Even a Spanish-language link would be helpful. 190.43.195.158 21:42, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update: According to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alejandro_Toledo&oldid=462476 the American spelling of organization was used first. According to Wikipedia policy that makes the article General American Standard. Terms like fishmonger and spellings like organisation need to go while terms like highway can stay (instead of being changed to the British motorway). I shall allow a period of discussion time before I start performing these changes myself.
