Note: changed spelling into a nowadays used names of Lithuanian towns and grand dukes.

Someone has to merge all three sections of this wpedia entry into one - I would like this to do some neutral person, i.e. not a Jew, not a Lithuanian (this one I belong to :), not a German, nor a Polish - it seems to me, that all these nations have some aliased and non-objective view of this historic fact :)))

Did the merge. Now, the problem with quoting from the Jewish Encyclopedia is that the rules about Jews were only a tiny part of the set of Rights, and quoting that in its entirety blows the article out of proportion. So I took out this, which didn't seem fit to me:

In Vilnius, where the Magdeburg law was granted to the municipality as early as the fourteenth century, the Jews were expressly excluded from its benefits, but in the near-by city of Trakai the Jewish community secured from Grand Duke Kazimieras Jogaila the Magdeburg Rights for itself, and independently of the Christian community, which had received the same rights earlier. This grant, dated March 27, 1444, gave the Jews of Trakai equal rights with their Christian neighbors (see Lithuania).

Introduction

As far as I know, Magdeburg never managed to achieve the status of an Imperial Free City, even if the citizens had such ambitions. In this connection the introductory sentence is incorrect. Also see List of Free Imperial Cities--Zarbi1 (talk) 17:36, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

suggestion: import section headings, content and sources from german page

Hi, not too surprisingly, the german page on this is more comprehensive, going into a lot more detail of what was in the lawcode, appeal procedures, gives sources and so on.

So I'm planning to translate and add the following sections.

 2. Content and subdivisions of Magdeburg Rights
 2.1 Rules of Procedure
 2.2 Commercial Law
 2.3 Marriage and Inheritance Law
 2.4 Criminal Law
 2.5 Court Officials and jurisdiction

 4.2 appeal procedures to Magdeburg
 5 the Removal of Magdeburg's role as an Appeal Court
 6 The disappearance of Magdeburg Rights

I was therefore thinking of deleting parts of the current "contents", but will leave the section on jewish people and their relation to magdeburg rights.

Lydford Law

Lydford law has nothing whatsoever to do with municipal rights or privileges and does not belong in this article. It means meting out harsh (or unjust) 'justice'. It was not some kind of model charter for English towns. See:
