I currently live on Tybee Island and would be happy to supply with current pictures of whatever is necessary. Also, I don't know the protocol on these things... Lighthouse stamp image[edit]

I removed the stamp/lighthouse image due to __possible__ copyright violations... don't know for sure. Either way, I e-mailed a few Tybee websites and one gave me a few links to images which aren't covered under copyrights so I'll be adding them tonight. JoeHenzi 06:27, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I edited out the "reader comments" someone put into the entry; if anyone wants to re-integrate those points into the actual article, they are free to, but having a contradictory "this is wrong" statement tacked on to the entry is not the proper way to use wikipedia.

History: The Raid on Tybee Island[edit]

During the Revolutionary War a party of white men, some dressed as American Indians, raided and massacred the inhabitants of Tybee Island, some 200 runaway slaves. This event was triggered by the proclamation of Lord Dunmore, who promised freedom to any black slave who joined the British and took up arms against the new American nation. The Charlestown Council of Public Safety, led by Henry Laurens, together with Steven Bull, colonel of the Georgia militia, planned and executed the raid.

Pronunciation needed[edit]

I just saw a television program that pronounced it "Tibby" Island. I'm pretty sure that's not how it's done. ;) Is there a local who can weigh in?

It would be nice to have a pronunciation added similar to how it's done in the article for Worcester, Massachusetts.
