Looking for a conversation we had? Wanting to re-ingnite an argument long since resolved but can't find it? Or maybe you just want to read what I've said so that you can use it in a fresh argument against me. Maybe you're a scientist doing research on how a 20yr old workshy Yorkshireman interacts with a Scouse Fireman; a British ex-pat in Austria with a girls name; a middle aged reluctant cockney who is married with children; and a KLF fan from the West Country when discussing very trivial Beatles-related matters, using various - and increasingly confusing - pseudonyms. Then why not look in my archives? They're full of hilarious altercations I've had with friends and critics, and will keep you entertained for hours. Why not try the "random discussion generator" by entering an archive and choosing a random heading, then reading the relevant text - it's pot luck madness! Or maybe you're a publisher looking for a new form of coffee table literature with a view to making one lucky, stubborn and argumentative wikipedia contributer a household name. Look no further. God has smiled upon you this day - I am your man. More likely, you're an admin, looking to see how many times I've been blocked before so you can give me a really big block becuase I've called a fellow wikipedian a "fucking useless tosser, I'll kill you!" - let me save you some time: I have never once been blocked (yes, that ought to do. What a good cover).

Not that it's any of my business, but--who the hell is this? Kodster (Talk) 22:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This, is The Mighty Crestville, who is an all-round good chap, and worthy of the Mighty title. He's a card, a wild-card, and a Knight of humour.--andreasegde (talk) 18:18, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I thought it was someone else advertising their talk page. I didn't read the whole damn thing until now. :) Andreasegde, I was looking at Kingboyk's page and I noticed that he had a "Music Barnstar". That's the one. Kodster (Talk) 19:00, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Joe![edit]

Hello. This is the Kodster.

I have 2 articles for you. For what? Okay, I have two articles that I think should be nominated for GA. I already told the man in the crowd with the multicolored mirrors on his hobnail boots, but who knows when he'll get up to it. So I'm asking you. Yes, that was me above. Well, who the hell is that??? [stretched out] Anyway, the two articles are:

A Hard Day's Night (song)

A Hard Day's Night (film)

I loooove both the song and the film (He's very...clean), and I think the articles are GA material. Feel free to respond on the articles' talk pages (I know you won't), my talk page, here, or anywhere else you see fit (Liverpool, par example).

Goodbye. Kodster (Talk) 22:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're prob'ly sleeping (or at least you're not on Wikipedia, I presume) at this hour, but back in the West Country it's only 19:13, so...are you old 'nuf to remember the Fabs? You don't seem that old, although my age reckoning skills aren't so great.
I'm sorry to disturb you, Mighty Crestville. Kodster (Talk) 00:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, while I'm here. Why is it that you, despite all of your contributions, only have one REAL award for them? The others are just from the monster from the black lagoon, Cod (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean), and the married one (I'll have you know that I'm married as well). Kodster (Talk) 00:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't hand out the awards, so I don't know. But the awards from my fellow contributers and the ones I value.--Crestville (talk) 17:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Blackadder_the_Third.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Blackadder_the_Third.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 22:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Baldrickpic.jpg[edit]

I have tagged Image:Baldrickpic.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Advice Please[edit]

Hi Crestville, I need help! But that’s another story. Would you be able to take a look at I Should Have Known Better as I think what a certain user is doing is possible vandalism. However, I’m not empowered to resolve it, or am I? Could you advise please? (Then I’ll know what to do the next time). Thanks,--Patthedog (talk) 19:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Actually, it’s me that’s attempting to keep it as it is; not sure whether you appreciated that point. The early Dylan influence has been conceded by the band, and is generally out there in various books. The paragraph in question does cite sources, but I accept it could be worded better. The underlying point that the Beatles, and in particular, Lennon, did, for a short period, allow their music to be influenced by His Bobness, is important. And this song was the first to show this, which is why, I suppose, it is in the article. Anyway, I’m fighting for the principle that any arguments for or against should be made on the article’s discussion page first, before any major deletions. Am I right? Cheers,--Patthedog (talk) 17:05, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Day in the Life[edit]

I beg your pardon, Mighty Crestville, but could you ever find it in your oh so honorable time to take a look at A Day in the Life? It needs work, I'm aware of that, but I'm particularly interested in the "Song structure" section. I'm working to make this my 2nd GA, and because Andreasegde has some real estate issues to deal with, I thought I would bequeath the honor unto you. I entreat that you find it in your favor to look at it. Cheers, Kodster (Willis) (Look what I can do) 21:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the record, I never speak with such high regard to anyone but you, oh Mighty one. Cheers, Kodster (Willis) (Look what I can do) 21:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Once again I beg your pardon, but I feel that it is in order to remind you, oh Mighty Crestville, that you in all of your mercy agreed to look at Song structure of A Day in the Life. It is in human nature to forget, I understand, and that is why I humbly remind you of your agreement, which you did from the depths of your heart. Thank you for your time, mighty One. I've had this on peer review for a day or so, but to no avail. It's gonna be a while before Thriller becomes an FA, which Realist2 is busy working on and is the reason why he's not doing a PR on A Day in the Life. Thanks for looking it over. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Oasis' Cigarettes & Alchohol single cover.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oasis' Cigarettes & Alchohol single cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

English 'is' vs 'are'[edit]

ok man in britain they count collective nouns as plural but I'm just saying, every germanic and romance language does not Nick (talk) 17:34, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sorry for bringing up shit from grammatical edits from 2005 but according to the wikipedia page on collective nouns, if you are referring to a group of people as a whole without referring to interaction between its members then the sentence uses formal agreement, so "Oasis is from Britain" is the correct sentence in both Britain and America

Project News
  • As you may have seen, the talk page banner changed a bit. It has a couple of bugs (most notably the categorisation problems), but the {{WPBannerMeta}} standardisation was long overdue. Thank you to Dendodge for sorting it.
  • The newsletter's back after a very positive reaction, and thanks are again due to Dendodge.
  • Article adoptions: Heather Mills will be a hot topic next month, as the truth will be referenced.
  • The hottest Project page this month has been The Quarrymen (now a GA). It reveals the most accurate history of their early days, because so many other web pages tell a completely untrue story (one web page said they lost a Carroll Levis competition to a woman who played the spoons :)

Issue of the Month

Apart from the usual vandals, there is an ongoing problem with Wikipedia editors deleting free and fair-use photos because they don't think they are of any value to articles, even though this sometimes leaves articles with no photos at all. These editors do not leave notes on talk pages, so if you see that a photo has vanished, check the talk page and the history log.

From the Editors

It's been a while, but the newsletter's back! After a short discussion on the project talk page, seemingly unanimous consensus to bring it back was reached. This issue, and subsequent ones, will probably be shorter - as we kept running out of things to say before! There's a lot to say this month, purely due to the long absence of a newsletter, but we'll keep it as brief as possible.

In order to get delivery by Denbot sorted, the special delivery interface has been changed slightly - but existing delivery options still stand. Inactive participants who want delivery should place their names on this list.

If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 014 – August 2008). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Want to help on next month's newsletter? Don't want to receive these in future? Don't want it subst'd next time? – It's all here.

Fair use rationale for File:Elwisty-1-thumb.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Elwisty-1-thumb.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:01, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Only Fools and Horses car.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Only Fools and Horses car.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. The article Hollywood Minute has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable; requires significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Wikipedical (talk) 02:17, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Picture of the Arcadians (band).jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Picture of the Arcadians (band).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. File permission problem with File:Samual Lister.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Samual Lister.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 16:53, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
