[edit]What is the governor of gibraltar?
Accuracy dispute
[edit]The timeline of the article seems wrong. Also, it seems clearly inacurate the description and the list of governors.
First of all, a confusion on Gregorian or Julian Calendar seems to be in place. According to Gregorian Calendar, the city was taken over by Anglo-Dutch forces in the name of the pretender to the Spanish Throne on August 4th.
Seconly, it's wrong to say 24 July 1704: British occupation. It was not a British occupation but a change of side in the middle of a civil war. The governor on behalf of Philip V was Diego de Salinas, while from August 4th, the governor was the Prince of Hesse (in the name of the Archduke Charles, the pretender to the Spanish Throne). He was in charge of the town until his leaving on 2 August 1705. From that point on, while it seems that different British governors were in place: general Shrimpton, Roger Elliott and Thomas Stanwix, their status was dubious, since no formal transfer of sovereignty had been executed. At the same time, Imperial (German) troops remained in the town until the signature of the Treaty of Utrecht (that is, although dominant, British wasn't the only power in Gibraltar).
Therefore, my suggestion would be renaming the article to British Governor of Gibraltar, beginning the timeline on 2 August 1705 and making clear the status of such governors before 1713.

John Parslow
[edit]Was John Parslow really the acting Governor for only one day (13 to 14 June 1761)? This seems extraordinary. Also, I presume that the John Parslow in question was John Parslow (British Army officer). Any thoughts? Greenshed (talk) 21:09, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
- This ref [1] indicates that Major-General Parslow was governor from 1761 to 1762. Greenshed (talk) 21:17, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
