Relevance[edit]

Any discussion topics actually relevant to Estella's career or biography instead of quasi-poetry? USN1977 (talk) 20:35, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something funny about these pictures...[edit]

There's something a little suspicious about the pictures used in this article.
If they actually are original creations (presumably by camera), then why aren't there higher-resolution pictures available? I mean, heck, the first picture included looks like it's taken from the movie, Driven. 209.90.135.189 (talk) 06:46, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actual Age Brought in to Question by Arrest Documents[edit]

The booking record (#2749943 at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Information Centre) shows Estella's age as 40. Born December 23, 1970, not 1978 as in her conventional biography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigdaddyhame (talkcontribs) 17:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Probably an error on the LACSD's part 76.94.205.82 (talk) 04:00, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Age[edit]

She is 40. Here's the source. 161.53.42.199 (talk) 07:41, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A link has been provided to the article from a repurable source showing the arrest sheet with her 1970 D.O.B listed. It is the most valid listing for her birth we have aside from things like IMDB and her own PR releases, the 1970 listing has been mentioned in numerous other news sources as well.Duhon (talk) 06:44, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If she is really 40, which seems doubtful, then all of the other indications of her age in this entry will also have to be changed. The article no longer makes sense. For example, "In 1990, at the age of 12, Warren moved to Toronto to train with..." will now have to be changed to 'at the age of 20, Warren moved...' and "In 1995, after becoming the senior national champion at 17..." will now have to be changed to "In 1995, after becoming the senior national champion at 25" and so on. As a former athlete, wouldn't one of these sources have listed her DOB? (paradox) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.176.40.173 (talk) 18:00, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can't just change her age at the top of the page to 40 years old, and then not change references to her age **all the way through the article.** Next, might not the LAPD have confused a hand written eight (8) for a 0, (distinguishing one loop or two, possibly hurriedly written by someone being arrested for DUI)? And most importantly, are those in favor of taking this single indication as "most valid" then going to argue that the Canadian Synchronized Swimming Team, FINA, etc. confused someone who was actually 20 years old for a 12 year old? When was the last time someone here confused someone who was 20 for a 12 year old, particularly in the context of international sports competition? Every sports reference I could find lists her DOB as 1978. Are those arguing for this new date based on this one dubious record also suggesting she could snuck by to pretend to have been eligible to have won as solo bronze medallist at the 1995 Junior World Championships if she had really been 25 rather than 17? And this information is so compelling as to put this as the official 'Wikipedia' DOB on the main page? Either change every age on the page to reflect Wikipedia's new understanding, which is currently in contradiction, or go back the DOB accepted by the International Sports Community, such as FINA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.176.40.173 (talk) 19:28, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References to her specific age at different points of her life have been removed (they were not cited in the 1st place). Like was mentioned before as of now her arrest sheet with her her birth-date of 1970 is the most legit documentation we have cited in the article at the moment. If sources from the likes listed above i.e official national swimming team listings and the like can be provided please list them here so we can review and decide what is appropriate for the article.Duhon (talk) 05:24, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Again please for those who continue to edit her age please only provide reliable sources i.e scholarship articles, legitimate news organizations. Celebrity/promotional sites, blogs, IMDB, and the likes are not reliable sources. As of now the article cites news agencies that have reported her age as listed in her arrest sheet.Duhon (talk) 08:07, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why this wasn't added in earlier? but i've cited her booking report containing her birth date in the article header. So this should clear up some of the confusion.Brodey (talk) 08:48, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 76.2.139.236, 28 May 2011[edit]

As reported, the arrest report states that Estella Warren's real age is 40, not 32. 76.2.139.236 (talk) 18:50, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. - Happysailor (Talk) 13:07, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How come she's not on the Canadian 1996 Olympic Synch Swimming list?[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronized_swimming_at_the_1996_Summer_Olympics#Qualification

I don't think there were solo or duets in synchronized swimming in Atlanta - so I don't understand what "she had the chance to move on to the 1996 Olympics" means? Does that mean she turned it down - because it implies she was there...but the list of names doesn't show hers.

Just curious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.141.113.232 (talk) 23:56, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 76.64.41.137, 10 June 2011[edit]

Please change date of birth from December 23, 1970 to December 23, 1978 The report from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is incorrect.I offer myself, Carole Warren as the source. I am Estella Warren's aunt. I am a producer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Skylarkfarm (talk) 20:32, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The second link goes to the Daily Mail, which also says she's 40. Do you have a better source, like a newspaper or a magazine? No offense, but even though you claim to be Warren's aunt, you could be anyone. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 20:36, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Although, here's the CBC saying she's 31, which means 1970 is wrong. [1] And I'm not sure how reliable TMZ is, but they say she's 31. And common sense shows that, model or not, it's really, really unlikely that she's 40. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 20:41, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Meanwhile, the People Magazine source says she is 32. What a tangled web we weave......Niteshift36 (talk) 20:47, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt it, but if we can get proof that Skylarkfarm is who she says she is, does that give her any more pull to change it to 1978? And looking at that CBC correction, I bet they first relied on the police report's date of 1970, which can't possibly be right, then corrected it. Of course, I can't find a similar document from her 2007 DUI, but I'm looking... Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 20:52, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • It doesn't really matter who Skylarkfarm is. A relatives say so is not a RS. Niteshift36 (talk) 20:54, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I thought not. Maybe she can provide a long-form birth certificate. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 20:56, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And here's the Associated Press (via the New York Times) saying she's 32, not 40. [2]. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 20:59, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea how to do this, so this is probably going to get ugly, but I'm ready to change it to 1978. A Google search of "Estella Warren correction" brings up more than 200 news sources, most of which I admit are just rehashes of the AP's correction notice, claiming Warren is 32. Anybody who's ever spent time reading documents on the Smoking Gun knows that police make mistakes all the time, and I really hope that, for informational purposes, we're going to rely on the Associated Press rather than on a report banged out by a tired police officer who got kicked by a drunken Warren a few minutes before. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 21:22, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The People source is separate from the AP report and says 32. Niteshift36 (talk) 21:27, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm changing it. Someone who knows what they're doing should get ready to clean up the giant mess I'm about to make. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 21:29, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The LA Times [3], UPI [4], NY Post [5] all say 32. Meanwhile Forbes [6], USA Today [7] and others use the AP report that says 40. The problem here is that all the ones saying 40 seem to be using one source. Niteshift36 (talk) 21:38, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a People Magazine interview with Warren from February 1, 2006; its claim that she is 27 lines up with 1978. [8] Here's a People profile from August 20, 2001, saying she's 22; that also lines up with 1978. [9] And the AP has since corrected its own report, which means it's probably just a matter of time before Forbes, USA Today, and others do, too. Lots of papers that relied on the initial AP report, including the New York Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer, have issued the AP's correction. Silvercitychristmasisland (talk) 21:45, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The couple of sources that say she's 31 are both very recent, and Skylarkfarm explains how they came about at her talk page. All older sources, including those supplies by Silvercitychristmasisland, and this from 2000 provided by Skylarkfarm at her talk page, are consistent with a December 23, 1978 birthdate. That's what the article currently says, and I think everyone's happy with that, so I've closed this request. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 03:23, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I still feel her court arrest sheet should be mentioned with reference to the age they list her at. The AP's correction made no mention of the arrest report sheet being incorrect. It's likely they received a lot of flak referring to her non publicized age. Anyone have opinions here?Duhon (talk) 10:04, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • If it were a common thing (ie multiple independant sources) saying 40, I'd be with you. Instead, we have a single point of origin here. One cop makes a clerical error, AP reports it and everyone repeats it like a bunch of talking chimps. Which proves that the whole "reliable source" ideal isn't foolproof by any means. Niteshift36 (talk) 13:18, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Skylarkfarm, Silvercitychristmasisland, Niteshift36, Adrian J. Hunter and Duhon, I've taken this matter to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Estella Warren's birth date; a WP:Permalink for it is here.

Also pinging Tenebrae since he handles matters like these. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 12:34, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Silvercitychristmasisland was changed to CityOfSilver; so pinging that account name. And I see that Duhon was blocked for WP:Socking; see User:Duhon~enwiki. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 12:38, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
