Vivek: interested in Development issues

Hello to all fellow contributors in Wikipedia. My name is Vivek, and am a citizen of India. I graduated from Delhi School of Economics and will start my Ph.D. in social sciences from Syracuse University in fall 2005.

I have worked with the Right to Food Campaign in India and earlier with the National Alliance for the fundamental right to education. I also had a short stint with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics.

My primary contribution to wikipedia will be issues relating to right to food. Apart from the this, I have an interest in child development, education, gender issues, health, right to information, social exclusion, and broadly all major issues that have a bearing on development.

I also hope to make contributions on literature, theatre, cinema, ventriloquism and other areas I have a direct in which I have a direct involvement.

Hello There. I am new to the wikipedia concept - but am abso-mazingly-lutely floored by it. I cannot imagine the number of things I want to read about and write about. Since I was about10 yrs old, I have had the world book encyclopedia at home. Back then, computers were unknown or were only heard about. My grandpa still had a radio which worked on thermionic valves (if you dont know what that is, look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermionic_valve).

My field of work is in writing software for the investment banking world. It is normally a pretty unattractive proposition - but at times, I like to work. I am truly interested in looking for new ways of doing the old things. I believe that writing software will some day lead me to doing the same old thing (investment banking) in a very very new and great way - I hope I can do that. I like to play soccer. I like to travel. I like automobiles and can talk about automobile technology a little bit. To be honest, I am quite out of gear in all my interests so far. So I will give everything a shot.

Hi:

I found out about Wikipedia from a listserv of therapists who have studied with Stephen Gilligan. I learned that there is an article in Wikipedia on Self-relations (Called Self-relationship). This is very exciting to me because I believe that self-relations is an important new approach to psychotherapy and healing that the world needs to know about. It is NOT a cult as "Fieldspar" seems to believe (or at least that is why it seems he has put the article on Cleanup notice). I am seeking assistance in cleaning up the edits I have done on the article--I think I may have let my enthusiasm carry me away before I leaned all the rules for doing editing in the right way. Please be patient with me. I am trying to learn to do it right. I am a psychotherapist who uses self-relations in my clinical work. I know a great deal about self-relations, have studied it for about 15 years. I believe there are important things that need to be added to the article. I would like to do it collaboratively. Right now it doesn't seem like anyone else is in the process with me and it feels a bit lonely and intimidating. No really, as an academic whose pomposity is only exceeded at times by his verbosity, I haven't had the greatest relationship with Wikipedia in the past. Recently, I decided to re-evaluate the service and in doing so came to see the site from a different viewpoint. Instead of seeing how far short some of these articles come from a traditional paper encyclopedia I instead try now to see how far they have come and how big a step it is to have a mass edited royalty free public information service such as this. At any rate, I give in. I admit that I cannot beat you Wikipedia, therefore I will join you and see what comes of it.

I'm an associate professor of computer science at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, residing in Fenton, Michigan.

I have encountered the Wikipedia several times, usually through Google searches. Most recently, I saw an article in Wired News which talked about the culture here, and I thought I'd try it out.

My first contribution this weekend was to the Kettering University entry (as part of the faculty, I'm used to talking to people about the school). My research interests lie in formal methods, specifically the technique known as Abstract State Machines. Both of these links are stubs ... if I get an opportunity, I may try to populate them. (In the meantime, I'll probably just putz with existing articles until I get comfortable. Of course, if someone wants to take me in hand ... )

Socially, I'm a member of the Fenton Church of the Nazarene, a recreational duplicate bridge player, a science fiction fan (primarily TV), and a young parent. I'm also a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan.

Being only 17, my knowledge on most "academic" topics is at best casual, and certainly not sufficient to write or significantly edit WikiQuality articles, but I can do my bit in correcting spelling and grammar errors, and reverting vandalism, as well as writing about what I know about, which is music, particularly Alternative and Independent modern music. I am adding this comment as recommended. I think Wikipedia is a fantastic resource and I am all too happy to contribute. Thus far I have written 2 articles and edited about 4. I am not certain if this is the proper place to list my interests, but I may as well do so, even if I have to repeat them elsewhere: I am a big believer in generalism. I think that as the world has become more modernized, people have become more and more specialized in their skills, training and interests. While this is fantastically useful for the division of labor, it is a sad truism that specialization has permeated many folks' personal lives. The bygone days of the renaissance men are oft bemoaned, but the only thing keeping them from returning is our own clinging to a few "areas of interest/expertise" at the expense of learning new stuff. Anyway, enough pontificating. Suffice it to say I have many interests and knowledge areas and I think you should, too. Saying that is not helpful for classifying me, though, so, to be more specific: I enjoy and have at least a substantial level of expertise in the following areas (ranked in no particular order):

That's pretty extensive. I look forward to contributing to the encyclopedia in many ways. I will say that, in addition to my desire to contribute, I seek to remedy a particular problem that is all too common today, and that is present in Wikipedia: lack of credit to screenwriters. In film and film criticism these days, writers are generally ignored while directors or producers are given credit for "creating" a film. In fact, the writers are the only ones on any film who are responsible for creating something out of nothing -- the essence of all true creativity. This may not sound like much, but I deeply believe that it is crucial to give people credit for accomplishment where they deserve it. Therefore, look for me to be adding credit where credit is due on films (and elsewhere) throughout the encyclopedia. That's it. I suppose I should add the above to my "personal page".

Hello to everyone. I've been using Wikipedia for a while now, figured it was about time for me to sign up for an account. I've done some anonymous editing on the side...I guess I can keep track of all my edits now.

Interests of mine...lots of stuff in general...I'm a developing intellectual, so I feed off of almost anything that interests me. My fortes lie in math and computer programming, so if anyone needs any help, feel free to ask me stuff. I'm also a picky writer. I've done (and probably will be doing) a lot of technical editing on pages: grammar, spelling, and other syntax-related changes

I'm also an existentialist. Not an extreme one, but I believe in a lot of the philosophy and ideology that lies behind it...I love reading philosophy across the board, and I love engaging in thought-provoking discussion.

Aside from that, I'm glad to be here, and I'll catch everyone around later. Feel free to mess around with my talk section, HolyApocalypse, as I haven't gotten around to editing it and getting stuff in there yet...it'll serve as a small message board for now.

I'll be creating my user page someday...until then, I guess it's free for people to fool around with.

Hello! I figure I might as well introduce myself and stop lurking. My name's fairly obvious (I use a psuedonym for fictional works, but never when discussing matters of factual relevenace), and I'm a college student in Indiana attending Ball State University. I'm a sophomore majoring in geography (meteorology subset) and computer science and minoring in history. I'm also presently the student manager for the Ball State Weather Station. I've been a fan and watcher of the Wikipedia project for awhile now, but only recently decided to start actually editing and contributing. You'll find that I mostly watch/contribute to pages of meteorological relevance, but I started with some work on Robert Miles, a musical artist. I try and will continue to try to add my knowledge to whatever topics I am familiar with. I look forward to working with everyone here!

I'm a 23 year old graduate student...I've browsed the wikipedia before and even made a couple of minor corrections, but decided to jump in and get an account to join the incredible (and incredibly interesting) community that surrounds this site.

My bachelor's degree is in computer science and engineering while my master's, which I will hopefully be receiving in May (assuming I finish my thesis, bah) is in interdisciplinary studies - specifically, leadership studies, which is a combination of many things, including business/management, political science and psychology. So my interests are all over the place - computers, the web, video games, Disney World (planning my 2nd trip there, got to go for a conference last year and decided I have to go back and bring my girlfriend this time!), issues in higher education, politics, current events, etc.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and contributing to the wikipedia!

I've known about Wikipedia for some time, but I guess I just wasn't "in the window" to appreciate it. I really think I am, now. I'm interested in using Wikipedia myself, but more interested in mastering the tool and contributing.

I'm the Associate Dean for General Education at a proprietary university in Atlanta, GA. I currently teach composition and literature, but spend more time on administrative work. My degrees are in English, but I also have certifications and substantial industry and academic experience in Information Technology.

My interests and areas of -- hmm, "expertise" is not quite the right word -- "things I care about enough to read and write a lot about" include writing, literature, popular culture, computers, blogs, computers games, MUDs and MUCKs, gardening, Magic: The Gathering (a collectable card game), dogs, and various bon vivant interests including Martinis, whisky, cigars, pipes, and cooking.

I went ahead and dove in, refactoring and adding to the Martini cocktail page. Now I'm reading the tutorials and style sheets and seeing all the stuff I did wrong the first time! So, in the next few days, I plan to keep plugging through the materials and do a proper overhaul.

I do want to add content, but I think the main the way in which I'll be able to contribute is copyediting.

Hello. I've been using Wikipedia for years but only recently noticed that I could edit.

I work in computers, but my big interest is History, I am completing my undergrad part-time. If I write an essay, I will look up the Wikipedia article on that topic and add (or change)what I know. Greetings all, I have a strong interest in Interdisciplinary Arts, and work that has bridged the gap between Arts and Sciences by causing large shifts int he way people have come to view or consider their world. I'm presently thinking of adding a page that is a compiliation of the many individuals who have blurred the lines between Arts and Sciences (probably has "History of Interdisciplinary Arts"). I start studying the topic between the years of the 1950's (with Piene, Kepes, et al) to the present, as well as work performed by scientists/artists from the 1400's and earlier. At one point it occurred to me that there was a ~500 year gap in my knowledge on the matter - and I wondered what happened in this period of time (from the disappearance of the Rosicrucian alchemists to their reappearance just prior to the coming of Futurism and Dada, coincident with the work of Austin Osman Spare. I am presently in the process of compiling an adequate history of this time in perspective of those whose work have blurred the lines between arts and sciences. I also have a range of other interests dealing with the study of pattern and phenomena.

My interests are as diverse as my experience; do not imagine that you are safe from my meddling, no matter how obscure your area. I have participated in many an online forum since the days of the dialup BBS; my computer experience goes back to the one I designed from scratch for 4th grade show-and-tell. I have operated many websites and mailing lists, been active in Usenet, and participated (briefly) in E2 and 1000 AD. Relevant to the Wikipedia project are my graphic design background and work as a systems generalist. In recent years, I've come more often to rely on WP for fast, accurate, summary information on a wide range of topics; it's time to invest.

It is beginning to look as though my main concentration will be in graphic design tutorials, actual graphic design for use on WP, and a RDBM UI manifesto. Naturally, I should welcome collaborators. Hi my name is Jon from Manchester in the UK. I work for a social research company and have a degree in history. I am interested in a wide range of things icluding science and technology, politics, music and history. I am especially keen on military history. Hi all, I've been poking around for a month or so, doing a lot of reading and trying to get a handle on things. I've created a small handful of articles, some new some off of the stub sections. I'm looking forward to getting more involved as time allows. My free time tends to get fairly fragmented so I'm more than willing to help with some of the "janitorial" types of things as well as writing as I get a chance. So I'm all ears to suggestions.... I've started to form some initial opinions around some of the issues that are debated in the VfD page and some of the RfCs...but the discussions are all pretty interesting and the idea of Wikipedia is fascinating. NonNobis: Geosciences, Computer Sciences

Hi all, I have a MSc in Computer Sciences applied to GeoSciences, a BSc in GeoSciences and a university degree in Physics for Engineering. I also studied Chinese Language and Civilization.

I worked has engineer in geotechnics for a quarry exploitation and public works company for wich I developped a rock sliding analysis software. Then I specialized in Object Oriented (OO) technologies and worked on different OO software development projects.

I am now working Air Traffic Control (ATC) research projects and I specialized in lightweight distributed ATC simulation environments and real-time simulations.

My first contribution will concern the Constructal Theory, but I hope to contribute to both geosciences ans computer sciences domains and others scientific domains and also to the asiatic civilization and history fields.

I am 17 years old currently, residing in Los Angeles. I've been using Wikipedia almost from its founding and have only recently bothered to become a member after several anonymous minor edits. I can't imagine a more noble goal of providing all of human knowlege for free to anyone who needs it, and I hope that in some small way, I can contribute to it.

I've been using Wikipedia on and off for some time now - and haven't ever felt "worthy" of contributing myself. What I've come to realise is that we all have areas of knowledge, and so everybody is able to contribute something if they wish.

I'd love to see Wikepedia use become more widespread - I know very few people who know what I'm talking about if I mention Wikipedia, yet they all know about other (commercial) Encyclopedias.

I think the way to make Wikipedia more accessible to more people is to make it easier for webmasters to incorporate content into their own sites - they get a bit of free content, all of which should then link back directly to Wikipedia.

I just registered yesterday, after saying to myself "What the heck!". Though I may have stumbled in this site previously, the first definitive memory I have of it is when about a year ago I started being more active on the Net, other than just browsing pages, as I searched for all things "nerd". I wanted to make the concept crystal clear in my mind and the articles here were quite enlightening in all their extent. My main interests and areas of knowledge are in Earth Sciences and a little less in Astronomy. I have a particular liking for the History of Life, specially in fossil vertebrates, such as dinosaurs. I like to read science divulgation and science fiction books and doing art related to those subjects. I also collect and play Magic: the Gathering... And that's about it for now. Here I hope to do many contributions to the areas I am interested in and to be generally on the lookout for grammar and spelling mistakes (for which I apologize if there are any in this text).

I am more active in the Finnish Wikipedia, since Finnish is my mother tongue. I might occasionally contribute to en-wiki as well, like I did just now by translating an article from Finnish.

My fields of interest and expertise include software engineering, language technology, customer documentation, internationalisation and localisation. I am employed by the three latter ones at the moment. Also some botanical lore, but I'm really no expert in that.
