More information[edit]

Taken from The Political Graveyard: Masloff, Sophie — of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pa. Democrat. Mayor of Pittsburgh, Pa., 1988-89; Presidential Elector for Pennsylvania, 1996; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Pennsylvania, 2000, 2004; member of Democratic National Committee from Pennsylvania, 2004. Female. Jewish. First woman and first Jewish mayor of Pittsburgh. Still living as of 2004. - McCart42 05:57, 2005 Apr 5 (UTC)

The rehearsed malapropisms began with a genuine one. Following a Grateful Dead concert, an irritated Masloff found that the City faced a considerable cleanup bill because their fans had left a mess behind. Not quite cognizant with this area of popular culture, she referred to the band as "The Dreadful Dead" and their fans as "Deadenders". Her staff were initially embarrassed, then they realized that her constituents had been greatly entertained. After that, they encouraged her to make more of the same, but the subsequent 'errors' were never as funny as the original. I don't have a written source for this; I was in Pittsburgh when it happened. Pugnaciousignatius (talk) 11:35, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
