copyvio clarification[edit]

I am in fact the owner of the Old Time Trains web site of Canadian Railway History and Stories, in addition to writing the original CLC article for Wikipedia based upon material from Constructed in Kingston. This is the definative works on CLC and the only book about CLC that I know of. I also have permission of Don Mc.Queen the author of Constructed in Kingston to republish material on my web site. Is this explanation satisfactory?

Good enough for me. Thanks for clarifying it. slambo 00:26, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

Copyvio[edit]

I hate to do this, but the article text appears to be a copyright violation of http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/clc/clc.htm slambo 18:00, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)

The information on page creator User:R.L.Kennedy's web page leads me to believe he is also the creator of the content on oldtimetrains. So maybe it is not a copyvio after all. Oh. On second glance, it appears that the info on oldtime trains may itself be a copyvio of the book "Built in Kingston". But R.L. Kennedy is a good contributor - I think we need to confirm the status of the article directly with him Fawcett5 18:47, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I didn't see anything asserting permission to republish, so I erred on the safe side here. I would hope that permission was granted for republishing it because there was some very good information in the text. Another editor has already left a note on his talk page and I clarified that a quick note on an article's talk page asserting permission can sometimes be enough to prevent conflicts like this. If RLK doesn't step up to assert permission or submit original work, I may just fill it in with my own work like I've done with many other articles lately (like I submitted for Pioneer Zephyr or John Bull (locomotive)). slambo 22:14, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I loved the Pioneer Zephyr article, keep them coming. Haven't yet seen John Bull (locomotive), I'll check it out now.Fawcett5 01:38, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Locomotive Template[edit]

This article is now crying out for a template of Diesel Loco types, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. Anyone? Slambo? R.L.? It seems there were enough differences from the F-M offerings that a separate template is appropriate, although many of the entries could probably just redirect.... Fawcett5 15:53, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'd be happy to create one, but I don't have a list of CLC models. I would say that I'd check my resources tonight, but I'm attending a friend's operating session tonight. Take a look at what's behind Template:EMD diesels or Template:GE diesels for an idea of how to put it together. slambo 16:20, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)
OK, it seems straightforward enough to create. But I'm no expert on the models either (Though I'm guessing R.L. will know this by chapter and verse). Here is a VERY partial listing. I won't actually create the template until I get all the nomenclature straight, especially for the early one-offs and the subtypes of C-liners. As a kid I lived for a few years in Nelson, British Columbia a couple of blocks from the CPR yard, so I got to see first hand the last days of the C-liners and other CLC/F-M units in the Kootenays.... • DRS44-1000 (Baldwin/CLC)
  • H-12-64
  • H-16-44
  • H-24-66 ("trainmaster")
  • CPA-16-5 (16-4?)
  • CFA-16-5 (16-4)
  • CPB-16-5 (B?)
  • CFB-16 (B?)
  • CNR 9000 9001 diesel road locomotives
  • CNR 7700 (Re#77 12/50) yard switcher (CLC #1861 5/29)
  • CLC-Whitcomb (Stirling Engine)
  • DT2
I just started Template:CLC diesels based on this short list (okay, only the first four models shown here). One difference between this and Template:GE diesels is that the GE template says align=center width=75% class="toccolours" while the CLC template says align=center class="toccolours". As it gets bigger, we should put the width=75% part into the CLC template so it looks consistent. slambo 18:30, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

Bad link[edit]

The external link http://trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/clc/ results in "You don't have permission to access /oldtimetrains/clc/ on this server."
