how could abstract art not be in this category?

I agree, it needs to be included.

And why are some listed under sub-category rather than just genres? Each subcategory appears to be able to fit into genres.

It would take quite a bit of information architecture to organize everything into categories and sub-categories, then, there are those grey areas. I'm OK with having a giant list as long as there is no repetition. - jeb69
