How could there have been a Soviet ace during the Vietnam War? Surely if Russian airmen were shooting at Americans, it would have become an act of war? -- Zoe

There were Soviet 'advisors' flying with the NVPAF. This happened in Korea, as well, and in the Arab-Israeli wars, but I haven't added those scores in yet. -- GABaker

What is the history of the rule of bridge that the ace is the highest card?? Do any entries at Wikipedia have it?

1 on an Ace in french decks[edit]

This is certainly true. I'm so confident I almost removed the citation needed but couldn't be bothered. I've even got a deck of french cards in front of me now where the aces are all 1s. I could probably upload a picture if needed. Gytrash (talk) 01:27, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is true but it is incorrect that the ace would be the lowest card in most european card games and beeing marked with a `1` instead of an A. In fact this is a speciality to french cards to my knowledge. I can tell for sure it isnt the case in any german speaking country. --85.178.31.99 (talk) 15:11, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion of Aces[edit]

The current article makes up a fanciful tale about how Ace was perhaps moved to the top because it was "number one". If this was the case, why didn't 2 become "number two" etc? I could find no sources to back up this tale and I'll instead reword it to point out that perhaps the ace was promoted just for the novelty of doing so. The German deck experienced the same phenomenon it would seem, since their 2 was promoted to the top of the deck. Owen214 (talk) 04:35, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In my example about the German 2 being promoted, I can't find any German games older than the French revolution; perhaps the French deck was the only one to experience this promotion and the Germans just copied it after the revolution.
