Past two or three years[edit]

The phrase "in the past two or three years," isn't very useful without something to indicate when the article (or at least when the phrase) was written. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.144.20.254 (talk) 16:20, 27 November 2006‎

Subculture?[edit]

Is "rockabilly" really a "subculture"? The rockabilly article only covers the music, and it is not mentioned on List of subcultures. Taco Deposit | Talk-o to Taco 18:55, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC)

I'd say so. Lots of people live the rockabilly "lifestyle" by relating most everything in their day to day life with the music, fashion, and mindset of the music they enjoy much in the same way goths and punks do. Honestly, it doesn't take much more than a group of people and a shared interest to make what can be called a subculture.

"Preferred method"[edit]

Regarding this statement:

"The soft, plyable nature of the product has over the years overtaken hairspray and mousse as the preferred method of dominating unruly follicles."

Can someone provide a reference that will back up this assertion? -- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:50, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And sound more encyclopedic. I like the "dominating unruly follicles" but it isn't encyclopedic. I'd rewrite but don't want to spend the time on a statement that needs citing. Cburnett 19:48, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning[edit]

I don't know if this deserves going in the article, but if you want to get stuff like this out of your hair fast, condition it before shampooing, then rinse and then wash normally. comes out in one pass normally :-) dreamcatcher23 17:52, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also found that using dish soap and olive oil breaks up oil-based pomades really well! Johnchung89 (talk) 21:25, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"O Brother, Where Art Thou?"[edit]

Anyone have any issues to perhaps a "Popular Culture" or somesuch segment, discussing the fact that Fancy Dan's Pomade is an important plot point in this film? WookMuff (talk) 02:49, 22 August 2011

I was just about to make the same comment -- I'd actually never heard the term until I saw that movie! Jdrum00 (talk) 20:33, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hair Result using Pomade[edit]

This looks like written by a 12 year old. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.75.153.133 (talk) 22:07, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I've removed it. — Hex (❝?!❞) 22:13, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

Well, there's always WP:NOTADICTIONARY. We don't need the IPA in the lead at all for uncommon words with obvious pronunciations. There are various ways to say this word, yeah, but it turns out all the standard ways you might try to say it are actually used. The previous content here ({{IPAc-en|p|ɒ|ˈ|m|eɪ|d}}) isn't listed at all by the OED, which however has three other ways to read it. I'm used to what we had here but (a) we'd need to source it; (b) we'd need to include the other pronunciations; (c) we'd need to list the dialects that use them; (d) we'd need to source all that; and (e) at that point it's incredibly unhelpful and an WP:UNDUE overlong mess that would need to be shunted to the #Name section anyway. — LlywelynII 03:55, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
