Untitled[edit]

This entry is ridiculously long. I mean i quite like the band, but for God's sake, the Beatles have a shorter entry. Could someone shorten it?

This entry is far from impartial; it reads like a description of the band from their record label, or someone else wishing to promote them. Also, as the post above says, can such a band merit such a long entry? I don't mean to say they are not significant, but is there a need for this much information? --jack 19:41, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)
This is one of the most NPOV articles I've seen lately. I don't know much about the band (other than having Whip It On which I don't listen to much anymore). If someone who knows about them can edit this, have fun. And I suspect this is anti-copywrite considering the complete non-wiki form and style. It probably is lifted from a record label description or a fan site. I don't care much myself about intellectual property, I think property in general is crap, but wiki is supposed to abide by no copywrite so I think someone should look into that possibility. And I realize I am being a slacker and leaving the work for someone else, I don't have the energy or the motivation to do it. I will go listen to whip it on once more though, just for old times sake.

Ok I took matters in hand and butchered this article. I didn't add anything but cut out loads of stuff that had obviously been copied from an old press release. Ironically the article is now too short as there is nothing at all about the new album. A few lines about that wouldn't go amiss. BScotland.

Genre[edit]

I’ve been trying to decide what genre this band is. It is listed here a Rock & Roll but I think that isn’t exactly right. I have seen Noise Pop, Indie Rock, and Garage Rock, elsewhere but this just doesn’t seem to adequately describe some of their more dramatic songs, for example “Somewhere In Texas” or “Seductress Of Bums.” Maybe it is something like Twee-Noir. It has a contrived sweetness but at the same time a dark cinamatic sound. Is there a more accurate genre lable out there for these kinds of songs?

Fair use rationale for Image:PrettyInBlack.jpg[edit]

Image:PrettyInBlack.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Objectivity of the author[edit]

Who first wrote this entry because the introduction is a verbatim recital of the same description they have on last.fm website and I wonder if there is a conflict of interests for the author - are they PR related? Worth investigating. It also explains why this page is so long.

First album[edit]

This article contradicts itself!

Which was the band's first album? :S 121.210.30.69 (talk) 01:13, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timbuk3 needs mention[edit]

The harmony of the Everly Brothers (1950's) is referenced as an influence, but the much more recent Timbuk3 is a closer match. Both physically, and in the particular blending of male and female voices, there is a strong similarity. The phrasing and cynical attitude of The Ravonettes delivery is also reminiscent of Timbuk3. Whether or not the band has cited them as an influence, I think Timbuk3 needs mention here.

Names style[edit]

Is there some reason I don't know about that this article doesn't follow the stylesheet for subsequent use of names? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gevin Shaw (talkcontribs) 21:39, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
