Cowes - oldest regatta?[edit]

DenverG 12:53, 20 February 2007 (UTC) I see on this page that Cowes week is claimed to be the oldest running regatta in the world. The Gravesend regatta has been running since tudor times and the first definitive recorded date is 1698 which pre-dates cowes by 152 years. I cannot guarantee the authenticity of this, but the page at http://town.regatta.users.btopenworld.com/History.html mentions the history if the event which could possibly be confirmed by someone else.[reply]

Kapsejladsen[edit]

Any in favor for adding Kapsejladsen [www.kapsejladsen.com]

It's a very big deal at Aarhus Universitet, with 12.000 spectators attending the race.

It is of course not a formal Regatta, as the race involved rowing from one shore to the other, drinking a beer, spinning around the bottle 10 times and rowing back. The teams consist of 5 sailors each.

Regatta in early Canada[edit]

I've just added this

Emily Carr, who grew up in the early days of Victoria, British Columbia, descibes a regatta in which the Indian races were the highlight. The canoes, of ten paddlers and a steersman acting as cox, "flash[ed] through their races like running fire." The Kloochman ("wife" in Chinook Jargon) was "an even grander race" than the men's, with the women giving "every scrap of themselves to the canoe", working in complete unity^[1]

to Pacific Northwest canoes. There is a whole (short) chapter entitled "Regatta" in Carr's memoir. Might be useful if anyone wants to expand this article. BrainyBabe (talk) 12:27, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion Category talk:Yachting races[edit]

You should know about this and comment. One of our editors has systematically depopulated it (from this article among many others), and thinks that is a good reason to delete it. 12:11, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
