There's more to it than that[edit]

Hi fellow Wikipedians! As a long time fan of Kyrgyz Music, I want to mention that this article is in need of improvement. Unfortunately I am not qualified to do so as I do not know the correct terminology. This article give the impression that you have to forms of Music in Kyrgyzstan: Folk and a K-pop/pop combo. While K-Pop, Pop, and Rap certainly are present, there are a lot of artists who create music that doesn't fit the classification. To give some examples. On the one end there is spiced up folk music. Excellent examples include Mirbek Atabekov's "Bul Düynö" (Мирбек Атабеков- Бул Дүйнө) Ilyaz Andash and Nazel's "Beles" (Ильяз Андаш Назэл Белес) and Ayar Akylbekov's "Toolor". However while borrowing from pop in some aspects they are basically folk music. Of course you also have several in the Estrada genre such as Gulnur Satylganova.

Then you have the Music of Bek Borbiev (Бек Борбиев), which utilizes the accordion. The particular sound (often using the harmonic minor scale) is certainly not the same as pop or k-pop. The closest term I can find that I think would fit is "retro" as it seems to have emerged within the soviet union. There are a lot of singer's with a similar sound.

Then you have the Toi music which Wikipedia has a stub article on. It often incorporates elements of traditional Arab and Turkish music. I am not sure if these are technically Toi or not, but Nurmat Sadirov's Kyrgyz Kyzdary is an excellent example. The music of Nurkyz Kojonova also utilizes this.

Of course most of these singers are unique and defy genre categorization, or sing in multiple genres. Examples of well known singers (based in part on MuzKg youtube channel, but also based on news media coverage and other factors) include Ayperi Kubyk Kyzy, Ilyaz Andash, , Anjelika Kairatovna, Nurmat Sadyrov, and Sultan Sadiraylev.

Unfortunately the research on it is very sparse, so I do not have reliable secondary sources. Also, I am not sure what some of these genre's are called. JohnpaulÞ (talk) 00:13, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
