Armenian middle name reads like "Ivani". As I was told at the Sanahin museum, his father was Hovhannes (sp.?) so it should be changed. At the monument in Sanahin I could read something starting with Ho.... but my Armenian is not good enough to read the rest.

The same applies for his brother Artem Mikoyan.

The current English name transcribes the Russian version of his name, not Armenian, because Russian version is much better known.  Perhaps it is necessary to include both versions. — Monedula 07:34, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)

At least the name in Armenian script should be changed. Aramgutang has already changed similar things at articlec about other Armenians.

Well, in Armenian, it would be very much incorrect to say Ivanovich, and the name is never written as such. The reason for this is that it is not a middle name by Western definition, but the name of the father, and would be equivalent to saying Anastas of Ivan in English. In Russian, the ending -ovich (or -ovna for women) is used, while -i is used in Armenian.

Since the Mikoyan brothers are known in the Western world as Soviets, rather than Armenians, the Soviet (Russian) version is probably the only one needed in English. Oh, and I had completely forgotten that the name Ivan translates to Hovhannes in Armenian, I'll change the middle names to "Hovhannesi" in Armenian for both of the brothers. --Aramgutang 09:53, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)

GA nomination on hold

I've put the Good Article nomination for this article on hold, for the following reasons:

1. Done Many of the quotations are incorrectly formatted; see Manual of Style for guidance.
2. Done The 2nd paragraph of the Party Apparatchik section is awkwardly worded, including the list and the "To which Mikoyan replied" phrasing. Also, what does Apparatchik mean? The word is not present anywhere in the article besides the section heading. Here you go for the meaning of apparatchik [1] Fedayee 03:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
3. Done The second half of the Foreign Diplomat section makes some statements about his differing views, but doesn't cite them.
4. Done I tagged three statements in the Coup involvement and Death section that seem like original research; please either provide sources or remove them.
5. Done Some of the headings use improper capitalization; see WP:HEAD#Capitalization for guidance.

Problems with this article

Some of it smells too much of Soviet historiography. Quote "he and twenty-six other commissars were captured and put in prison" disagrees with the 26 Baku Commissars article which states that Mikoyan was not one of those imprisoned, and was actually involved in the freeing of the others. Nor were there "26" imprisoned - there were more than that, and that number refers to those of them later executed in Krasnovodsk. Something should be said of the "mystery" of hissurvival, i.e. the later accusations that he had survived because he had betrayed his comrades, or that he had survived because he was just not considerred important enough to be executed, or that his name was by sheer chance left off the list. His grandson Stas Namin

His grandson is Stas Namin, well-known Soviet rock'n'roll star from the band "Flowers", he was always against the Commie bullshit and wanted to play rock'n'roll, he was the one who booked a two-days Festival of Peace in 1989 when bands like Motley Crue, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Scorpions and Ozzy Osbourne came to Moscow to rock. This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. The article history has been updated to reflect this review.

For further improvement it might be a good idea going a bit beyond pure narrative biography, and tell something about the subject's philosophy and character. Some of this shines through in the article, but it should be given more attention, perhaps in the lead section.
